Eliminate the DH & I’ll be happy.
We had 280 million people in 2000. Right now we have 320 million people and We will probably add another 10-20 million before the decade is over. Good time to expand.
Ditto. I hate DH.
Havana, Cuba, they could charge 15, maybe 20 cents for tickets, maybe; kill them on the hotdogs and beer!
Everyone knows there is big money in Cuba.
Then the players would decide that they absolutely, positively needed drugs to overcome the effects of jet lag.
Then some reporter would discover that the players were taking drugs not just to overcome jet lag, but because they aided their abilities as well.
Then the monstrous pile of greed and hubris would come crumbling down for good.
MLB?
I quite watching the last time the players went out on strike. That is my policy for any professional sport.
I will go to minor league games and love college sports.
Major league anything? Forget it.
They should start weeknight games at 5PM, call it a blue light special. It would be loved by baseball’s fan base. The game is still rockin it in the nursing homes.
“Tampa Bay is averaging less than 15k fans a game, and you want to expand?!”
Get with the times, comrade! If they’d simply get taxpayers to fund a new $1.0B ballpark in Tampa for the Rays, a team tightly woven into the fabric of Tampa for years now, the stadium would be filled, the city would grow, schools would be funded, businesses would thrive, homeless would find homes, dolphins would jump in the water more, and we’d almost certainly be at the threshold of world peace.
Just push for a tax increase to fund a new stadium!!! We did it here in Pittsburgh and the results are nothing short of amazing!!!! We are BOOMING as a result of the new stick & ball, oval cow ball, and puck and stick figure skater playgrounds ... not to mention glorious new convention center all funded for a price around $1.3B dollars (we’ll be paying the interest on that forever, but who cares!!! We got good game shows!!!) Take that, tractor factory that is useless like wife’s plow!!!
People are migrating to Pittsburgh in DROVES just to be a part of all of the action!!!
(sarcasm deeply implied along with bad Russian accent in parts)
I saw a documentary about baseball in Cuba once.
Games at the national stadium in Havana are all played during the day. Two reasons.
1) The true number of unemployed men there is actually quite high, and this gets them off the streets during the day and prevents trouble.
2) Due to lack of maintenance the lighting system in the stadium failed years ago and has never been replaced.
The doc also said they quit selling beer at Cuban ballgames years ago due to fights breaking out in the stands.
Read a recent article about baseball in Cuba, and it stated the sport is in decline in Cuba as well. The game of baseball is considered a sport for the old, like the Castros themselves. The sport is seen as part of the old Communists who rule the country in their dotage. Soccer is more popular with the younger people in that it represents a more outward looking attitude, not stuck in the stale nostalgia of the Castro’s.
Manfred man is right. We need a team in Seattle.
I'm not sure about the "national stadium" but there are plenty of baseball games played in Cuba during night hours & the lights seem to work just fine.
There’s no money in soccer unlike baseball.

Maybe they need to change the game and play according to “Finnish” baseball rules.
Manfred is just blowing. He knows they cannot and should not expand.
No lights, no problem!
The Friendly Confines went without lights for about 70 years.
In fact the Bartman ball thing may not have happened without lights!
Perhaps they could start out with near beer?
More employment opportunities for Cuban security types, they have many.
For the last 3 years, I have sort of followed the Texas Rangers.
When they were winning, their stadium was nearly full even during weekday games. When they traveled, not so much.
This year I have noticed their home and travel stadiums have whole sections that are empty, even during weekend games.
It would seem that their revenue is from TV rights and advertising, because they aren’t getting enough fans to pay for the lights and maintenance, much less the players’ massive salaries.
