New York City reached a $5.9 million settlement in the Eric Garner case Monday, nearly a year after he died in police custody.

“While we cannot discuss the details of this settlement, and the City has not admitted liability,” Comptroller Scott Stringer said in a release, “I believe that we have reached an agreement that acknowledges the tragic nature of Mr. Garner’s death while balancing my office’s fiscal responsibility to the City.”

Garner’s family, along with Reverend Al Sharpton will hold a press conference Tuesday morning to emphasize that “money does not establish justice.”

“Eric Garner is dead because “

He didn’t obey the police, as is the case in most of these deaths.

Eric Garner certainly didn't deserve to die, but I'd bet his "survivors" are now glad he did.

I’ll guarantee you that had Garner been white and all other circumstances the same, the family would be lucky to have gotten one hundredth of that in compensation from DeBlasio and company.

The New York City tax is $1.50 per pack and the New York State rate is $4.35. I'd have to say that the state is much more greedy than NYC.

Well, the award is 5.9 million, after the Ambulance Chasers, the Family Advisors, Spiritual Advisors, Reverends and other assorted reprobates are through, how much will the family end up with and how long before they are broke?

$5.9M? Wow. Of course that’s offset by the increased tax revenue from removing one street-level singles seller from the scene.

I wonder what Al's cut is.

Yesterday, an award of $5vmillion was rejected by the family.

Today, they accept an award of $5.9 million.

I'd say Al gets half the difference, or $450,000.

You think this is bad, how about the communist De Blasio making instant millionaires of gang rapists. Rape, brutalize a woman into a coma, brag about it to your friends and the cops, become a millionaires....

Yo, there they all are dressing large cause they are rich now, but that $41 million ain’t enough, they want more! All I know is if that was my sister, mother or daughter, the money would be meaningless to them because they would all be room temperature.

But surely his family will still get their EBT card, right? With Al’s share, he could pay off his tax debt.

A difference of degree, not kind.

The cops were there because the guy was trying to make a buck off of people who DON’T think paying confiscatory taxes is fair.

Was Garner behaving in an illegal manner? Yes.
Should he have complied? Absolutely.

I just think when one “widens the scope” just a little, it is clear we wouldn’t have had this situation if it weren’t for the greedy hand of government.

I am just willing to bet someone in NYC was being robbed, raped, or murdered at the exact time that group of cops were stopping Garner from selling his tax free smokes.

His illegal tax free smokes. After all, if gubmints can decide which laws to obey or not, then citizens should have the same rights too.

Who writes this crap?

I thought stand-up comedy was supposed to be spontaneous?

And funny, for that matter.

Hey, Revrunt...how much of that 5.9 mil found it's way into your non-tax paying pockets...you empty suit piece of shit?

Eric Garner is dead because New York City's liberal leadership CRAVED tax income on cigarettes.

If there had been a coordinated crackdown on the selling of looseys, I'd say you were almost right.

However, the sale of looseys for Eric Garner was like tax evasion for Al Capone.

Eric Garner's real business was not looseys, but it was the offense that could be proven.

And I would say you were almost right, but not actually right.

Eric Garner is dead because he was a morbidly obese asthmatic who spent five hours in the hot sun on a sidewalk and then decided to pick a fight with the police.

I know why he picked the fight - he was paid to do it - but it was still a very bad idea and entirely his own fault.
