Sowell: Is the Civil War Over?
Creators Syndicate ^ | July 14, 2015 | Thomas Sowell

Posted on 07/13/2015 1:46:21 PM PDT by jazusamo

In the wake of the recent murders in a South Carolina church, the killer's hope of igniting a race war produced the opposite effect. Blacks and whites in South Carolina came together to condemn his act and the race hate behind it.

Some saw in the decision to remove the Confederate flag from in front of the state house a symbolic repudiation of the old South's racial past — and the end of the Civil War. But, unfortunately, wars do not end until both sides decide that it is over.

The black parishioners who expressed forgiveness toward the killer did more than most of us could do, and the whites who responded with solidarity did their part. Note how quickly this was done, by ordinary people of good will — black and white — without the "help" of racial activists like Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson.

Professional race hustlers have no incentive to see our current civil war end. They see in this shooting only an opportunity to escalate their demands.

Now there are rumblings of demands that statues of Robert E. Lee and other Southern leaders be destroyed — and if that is done, it will only lead to new demands, perhaps to destroy the Jefferson Memorial because Thomas Jefferson owned slaves. And if that is done, no doubt there will be demands that the city of Washington be renamed, for the same reason.

In short, there is no stopping point, just unending strife as far out as the eye can see. And just what will that accomplish? It could ultimately accomplish the killer's dream of racial polarization and violence.

End the Occupation of the South by Yankees NOW.
Isn’t 150 years enough?

I have always seen more racism the farther northeast I travel.

the South of the mid-twentieth century would have elected a woman of Indian ancestry to be governor of South Carolina

And the voters of Massachusetts, to the Senate. Wait...

Look, the contest between a (temporarily) strong central govt and a more robust, enduring decentralized govt won’t end w/ South Carolina and the fight over the Confederate flag.

The hard fact is that the Confederate flag, rightly or wrongly, came to symbolize federalism/states rights in an era of federal aggregation.

What people (of all shapes, sizes and political persuasions) have to realize is that this is not about North vs South, Yankees vs Rebels, Hollyweed vs. Rednecks, etc., but this is about a form of govt which controls the implementation and imagination of bureaucrats.

After the SC church shooting, New York media types smelled blood in the water, and circled then closed in for the kill— all of them: Democrat, Libtard, Republican (for GOP: see Libtard— very closely related, same phylum and genus) because NY is dying and can in fact benefit from portraying the South as a woebegone racist society. “Please, Lord, just let the last of us suckasscommieidiotlibtards convince the new generation that there should be a form of PBGC for govt employees...”).

Dear Bos-Wash-NY losers: pull your boyfriends’ peckers out of your mouths long enough to fathom this: all 10 of the most segregated cities in the US are north of the old Mason-Dixon Line.

Perhaps the smug New Yorkers should be reminded of the Draft Riots of 1863.

Black orphanages were burned, blacks were lunched; it was an ugly scene of death and destruction.

Very good, only one small change...

What people (of all shapes, sizes and political persuasions) have to realize is that this is not about North vs South, Yankees vs Rebels, Hollyweed vs. Rednecks, etc., but this is about a form of govt which controls the implementation and imagination of everyone.

This day and age it is about who is going to get government money. If one can claim racism, one gets bigger bucks. So it is important to deny the most-favored-race has any ability to be racist while the other race has racism in its DNA. If you can sell that then you get the bigger cut of public funds forever into the future no matter what the facts are.

Sowell is a jewel.

It is too bad he and Williams are old now.

Talk about 100% black men I would have zero problem putting in the White House.

I don’t think it will be a Civil War.

I believe it will be the 2nd American Revolutionary War.

Hay, Jaz! I now have another reason to THANK YOU for posting these pieces by (The Love Of My Life) Dr. Sowell.

I recently had Dad’s internet disconnected; he hasn’t been able to see well enough to use the computer since January of this past year. In return, I PROMISED him that I would print out (LARGE PRINT) all sorts of things to read from his favorite sites...Rush, Dr. Sowell, 321gold, etc.

Left a, ‘stack-o-stuff’ for him to read when I checked in on him today. He’s a Happy Camper again.

So, THANKS! :)

East and Left Coasts against The Heartland?

City Rats v. Country Bumpkins?

Good v. Evil?
