Mexican Illegal Alien Arrested for Allegedly Kidnapping, Raping 13-Year-Old

While outfits like the Immigration Policy Center say Americans ought to stop believing their lying eyes and understand that the more illegal immigrants stream across the border, the more crime rates fall, the reality is much darker.

On Thursday, Michigan police arrested a Mexican illegal alien, 23-year-old Aurelio Hernandez-Gomez, after finding him with a 13-year-old Florida girl who had last been seen two days before her ordeal.

Cops acted on a tip that led them to a Hartford home where Hernandez-Gomez hid the girl while assaulting her.

Question, I'm seeing more news reports with hyphenated Spanish names such as "Aurelio Hernandez-Gomez" and "Juan Francisco Lopez-Sanchez". In Spanish the name would usually be rendered "Hernández y Gomez" with the final name being their "matrinomio" or mother's maiden name. Usually these guys would call themselves "Aurelio Hernández" or "Francisco Lopez". Why do we need the hyphenated form? The only time I've encountered it in Mexico is on legal documents and customs forms.

I could see this being used as a way to prevent embarrassment to the authorites by just dropping one last name or the other if they ever get loose and get picked up again.

One historic example, who has never gotten out, is a former neighbor of my aunt - Juan Vallejo y Corona. Everyone knew him as "Juan Vallejo" until he was arrested for killing about 20 guys. His family didn't object when the papers called him "Juan Corona".
