Sub head: Running as 'a fighter who can win' and implement 'commonsense conservative reforms.'
Scott Walker isnt big on self-reflection.
He spent much of Sunday on a this-is-your-life tour of southeastern Wisconsin with an ABC News production team and World News Tonight anchor David Muir. Late in the afternoon, he signed the biennial budget for the state of Wisconsin, a final item on the to-do list he compiled last winter as he began exploring a bid for the presidency. Today, Walker will formally announce his candidacy for the White House.
Its pretty heady stuff, but Walker, who grew up the son of a pastor and a secretary, and never completed college, says he doesnt spend many hours thinking about the magnitude of this next step. If I spent the time, it probably would be surreal, Walker said as he sipped water from a sweaty glass on a deck overlooking the Milwaukee River. Few people thought he would win election as Milwaukee county executive or eventually governor, he recalled, and he didnt spend a lot of time thinking about those moments, either. I dont really sit around and go: Hmm, I cant believe Im here. You just do it As crazy as that sounds, I really dont.
Nothing in Walkers demeanor suggests hes being disingenuous when he says this. His comments came during a half-hour long interview late Sunday afternoon, some 24 hours before he will make his entry in the race official. Among others topics, we discussed: national security, entitlements, the possibility hell be unable to ride his Harley Davidson if he wins, and his announcement speech Monday. If the moment is weighing on him, its not obvious.

Let the bashing commence...
FTA: Walkers speech today will include arguments familiar to anyone who has watched him over the past six months or the past six years. He will call for a reassessment of the role of government in American life a dramatic reduction of the scope of government and a redistribution of its power, from Washington to the states and localities. He will emphasize reform and budget discipline, as well as the need for growth. And, speaking without a teleprompter, Walker will develop a theme that he believes sets him apart from the ever-growing Republican field, portraying himself as a fighter who can win and implement commonsense conservative reforms.
FReep Mail me if you want on, or off, this Wisconsin interest ping list.
Great job in Wisconsin.
Regretfully, he supports amnesty.
What specifically would he do at the federal level that would expand on his work his work in Wisconsin? And which of those reforms would be his highest priority if elected? It turns out there are many. Repealing Obamacare right away. A major pullback and moratorium on the out-of-control federal regulations. Laying out a plan for true tax reform. Approving the Keystone Pipeline on the first day. Lifting the sequester on defense spending. Sending Medicaid dollars to the states and shifting responsibility for many government functions out of Washington: transportation, workforce development, heck, even education. Entitlement reform would be addressed literally in the first 100 days.
He does NOT support amnesty.
Not without his faults, but Walker is clearly for smaller, less intrusive government, is strong on social issues and is an uncompromising backer of the 2A.
That make 14 people who are now auditioning to be Ted Cruz ‘ s VP......
No.. he doesn't.
I was born and raised in Wisconsin (live in Texas now) but my parents still live there. I’ve talked with them quite a bit about Walker and they’re both fans. The liberals in Madison and Milwaukee hate him, but outside of those nutty conclaves the people like him. He did turn the state around and has a solid record to run on.
I still love Cruz but would be happy with Walker.
LOL. Nice play.
He’s pretty slimy on it, he does support it you are right. Also, he hires slimeballs like Brad Dayspring. No conservative would do this. Walker has RINO DNA he can’t hide it.
I’ll go ahead and make two predicitions. The first is if Walker is on the ticket then it will be as a vice-presidential nominee. And the second is that regardless of whether Walker is at the top of the ticket or the bottom they won’t carry Wisconsin.
Don’t want him we’ll happily keep him.
Given the choices currently available, I am now down two I would consider voting for in the primary, Walker and Cruz.
Given the fact that I live in the People’s Republic of CA (PRC), our primary is usually one of the last, in June, so usually the nomination is decided well before I cast my vote.
He’s gonna get chewed up and spit out. Been following him closely for a couple months and in the spotlight ... well ... he looks like the proverbial deer.
MAY get the VP nod if he doesn’t bungle too much.
I hpoe the vermin libs make a big deal over the fact that Walker is not a college graduate. It will backfire on them since the majority of Americans fall in this category.
At the very least he has said a bunch of different things about it, and hired and fired undr pressure, pro-amnesty people on his campaign staff. It’s an extremely mixed message and it’s a source of both confusion and concern, concernmon a number of levels.
Ddpoesn’t help his entire family is pro-gay “rights” either. Look what Mooch has been able to do the last six years doing the sh1t she believes in.
I am not sure Walker would be the VP. Kasich and Rubio are no doubt leading that position. We need Fl and OH to win the election.
Walker would be wasted as VP. I’d rather he stay as our Governor which is why I have mixed feelings about today’’s announcement.
However, our nation is in crisis and I’m willing to sacrifice our self interest for the interest of the greater good.
