Argentinas Jewish community is outraged over President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchners comparison of the countrys debt crisis to William Shakespeares infamous character Shylock, Haaretz reported Wednesday.
Kirchner made the remarks on Twitter last week, while recounting her meeting with 10-year-old schoolchildren in Buenos Airess Villa Lugano neighborhood.
To understand the nations economic problems, Kirchner asserted, the children should read Shakespeares The Merchant of Venice, in which the Jewish Shylock is portrayed as a money lender seeking revenge. [ ]
No, dont laugh. Usury and bloodsuckers have been immortalized in the greatest literature for centuries, she added in another tweet.

Among the stupidities is the fact that all Jews had been expelled from England 200 years before Shakespeare. He may have been using their figure to represent the forces of Puritanism, using a politically safe, neutral image.
She’s obviously channeling her, ‘Inner Hillary!’
It is both horrifying and revealing that numerous leaders feel free to belch their hatred of Jews now. It is a symptom of a much greater illness, lead by the failure of Israel’s most trusted friends to defend her and by the Jews themselves to recognize this danger and to unify in the face of it.
Storm clouds are forming and it is a terrifying sight.
More evidence of growing anti-Semitism on the Left around the world.
And a anti-Christian.......unless it conforms to the left’s and Islam’s will.
Growing ? The left hates God. They worship Satan.
I believe Psychologists call this ............projection.
She is just another totalitarian leftist, why would anyone expect otherwise
I'm not a defender of the Argentine President but possibly she cited Shylock because she perceives and probably rightly, that her country is being raped financially by Vulture Funds. The following gives us some info about Vulture Funds that may answer the Argentine President's attitude toward greedy money lenders - like the Shylock character:
Typically, vulture funds refuse to negotiate with countries who are indebted to them. They often make 400 percent profits with their legal proceedings, which often take place in New York or London courts where previous contracts on the loans were signed. These funds are among the very worst actors in our international financial system," notes Dr. Collins Magalasi, executive director of the Zimbabwe-based African Forum and Network on Debt and Development. "They are aggressive, selfish, and greedy. In fact, they are so egregious that most legitimate investors wont stand in the same room with them.
And those running the funds continue to lobby for even greater powers.
Last June, Jubilee USA Network, along with our partners at American Jewish World Service, put enough pressure on New York legislative bodies to stop proposed legislation that would allow vulture funds to sue a struggling country, even after a court had rejected their claims. Then in November, Argentina's case was brought to the U.S. District Court, which ruled in favor of the hedge funds. Argentina was ordered to pay $1.3 billion to NML Capital and other creditors it represented. When Argentina appealed, the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals froze the payout to hear new arguments from both sides. In February, the federal appeals court heard the arguments and ultimately asked Argentina to outline a payment plan. The plan the country laid out would essentially give the holdout creditors the same deal as 92 percent of the creditors that had previously restructured after Argentinas default. It still offered a significant profit to the "vulture" funds. The hedge funds rejected this plan; now we wait for the U.S. 2nd Circuit Court to issue a final ruling. Last October, the Libertad was returned to Argentine waters by Ghana. We hope to see a similar outcome in the case of NML Capital LTD, v. The Republic of Argentina. The legal outcome will either offer more devastation or greater protections for the worlds poorest and most vulnerable people.
Is there an excuse for the “bloodsuckers” remark? That has the overtones of blood libel and is a well-known antisemitic epithet.
Comrade Leader is just exposing her leftist anti-Semitic side for the world to see.
Just wait to see what she does next.
How do you say “COUP” in Spanish?
FWICS, it is «Golpe de Estado».
If Argentine Jews are anything like US Jews, they probably voted for Kirchner.
That’s her married name. Her late husband was her predecessor, Néstor Kirchner, who has his own legacy of infamy in many respects; and his dad was from Germany.
well she was born named Fernandez, not exactly a German name. she married Kirchner.
as for the rest, I really have little knowledge so i will let others answer
Blood libel? Really? I doubt that many people associate the term “bloodsucker” with Jews and/or blood libel. Most people think of “bloodsuckers” as a person or entity who works to take everything away from another without mercy. This terms applies to “people” who fit the description.
