“In less than 2 years Osama will be gone.”

We can only hope. However, his malignancy will continue to metastasize far into the future.

I can think of a 1st Lieutenant and a Major whose abscence would be an improvement.

It’s okay because they’re federalizing the police force and arming the social security administration.

Pentagon, SECAR, Army CofS, G1 DCSPER:

Here’s a novel idea, cut the 17k GS leaches which cost more and do much less (non-shooters), replace them with 17k of the troop reduction number, then fully implement retention standards to cull out the remaining 23k needed to trim the fat and dross, end up with a leaner, more motivated force while saving more money and increasing combat power and institutional depth.....

It’s true. Many graduating through college ROTC may not get their commission. How many have been cut over the past 8 years?

When I was there in ‘74, it was heavily rumored that there were nukes in SK, but under US control.

They will be commissioned but not be called to active duty.

This went on in the early/mid 70s when VN was drawing down.

They may also wait up to two years to go on AD.

Is that actual dollars or relative? If relative, China is about 10:1, meaning they spend what we spend.

How many senior officers, O-7 and above, did George Patton's Third Army have? How many EM?

Six Corps. 42 Divisions:

If we can't bring back Patton, let's bring back Patton's Army.

Archy;

Not sure of your point? Today as the we have AD Corps and a mix of AD and RNG combat division, and USAR Tng divisions/etc. I have been in Hqs where the majority of combat units were ARNG, with a mix of AD Cbt and Spt elements- just as then, when we mobilize we increase units in each echelon- an Army may get a corps or two, a Division may see a few more Regiments etc. The span of control increases just as then. Remember, If Patton and 6 Corps ( three sta cmds) and 42 Dvs, and each div had only 3 regiments ( BG Cmds in the day) then he would have had about 130 General officer or senior Colonels....plus G staffs and Ast/dep Cdrs, no?

I agree- cut GS/contractors and get decent officers and NCOs into those slots to assure institutional continuity, but clean the ranks as well. We certainly can use those who retired/separated, but not as second careers in m opinion-too much waste fraud and abuse as well a high cost ( from a different pot of money though). Disclosure_ I worked post retirement as a contractor and a consultant for 7 years- and I saw a whole new world of insider activity that I never thought my peers and superior ranks would engage in. It soured me fully on this topic. Keep green suiters in the ranks longer and in the school houses/R&D functions rather than padding contracting companies while paying low wages to the former warriors who have so much t offer.

I made for example, ~$63k per year FTE, but my company made well over $125k in my costs plus overhead-and my organization was known for low overhead. Some I hear are in the 200+% range and legally doing so.

Recently, I learned tht some contractors were hiring formerly FTEs on “on-call” basis w/ zero benefits to be competitive at h contracting level- what kind of retention would they have for a retired E8-to-O5/6 who can find full time work outside the M/I complex? Who is the loser? The troops who they are supposed to be training. Keep the green suiters in the house longer they have a vested interest in doing it right- they may find the students they trained covering their 6 next assignment....
