Yes, I know. That was for those who still saw Rubio as some “winnable” savior to vote for so they wouldn’t have to vote for Jeb. Although, why I bother....?

I submit that the whole concept of being a RINO is kind of pointless when its so obvious that the Republican Party is not in any way conservative. Being a “Republican in Name Only” implies that the party is conservative which is simply not true. If anything, it is antagonistic towards them (e.g., just look at how the Tea Party was treated). I don’t mean to be argumentative; just pointing out that the term RINO is not really meaningful.

The precious few conservatives in the party are vastly outnumbered by establishment Republicans who have dutifully expanded the role of government, continued to spend money, watched our freedoms diminish, and done nothing to stop Obama’s power grab. Republicans talk conservative but their actions say otherwise.

Point taken. That may be too much for some lifelong republicans to handle. Thus, “RINO” still serves a purpose - somehow.

I understand that RINO essentially means “fake conservative”, and I can’t argue with that at all. What concerns me is that the GOP as a whole still gets away with deceptively characterizing itself as conservative when its anything but that. And you’re absolutely right: many Republicans just can’t handle the truth no matter how many times they get stabbed in the back.

I also understand why many see the GOP as the only alternative to the Dems. That too is unfortunate as it just gives them a false sense of hope. The reality is the GOP only wants our votes and our money, but not our principles.

The Tea Party was on the right track. Too bad it wasn’t able to become a viable alternative to the GOP.

You are correct. But we should not give up on the TEA Party movement. It’s important even if it can’t contend with the establishment just yet. It gives hope and fellowship to people like us who are finding that something is wrong with the current system. Surely, TEA is growing even though it might not register that way officially. Some day hopefully the TEA Party can be parlayed into something bigger than it is now.

“That may be too much for some lifelong republicans to handle.”

Another truth that Americans in general can’t handle is the fact the U.S. is a de facto socialist country. Our government is so vast that it has control over, and virtually effects, nearly everything in our lives. Even the smallest of things is somehow regulated, taxed, or subject to some sort of law or administrative regulations. There is scaresly anything around you that is not. And our economy is clearly run by central planners.

Worse, the government rewards those it likes and punishes those it doesn’t. And finally, government power over our lives is increasing rather than shrinking. Few seem to want to acknowledge the extent to which government has grown.

I enjoyed the exchanges with you. Best to you.

Such growing totalitarianism and authoritarianism and the average dumb guy on the street doesn’t have a clue or worse, doesn’t care or think there’s a problem. We are so screwed. But nevertheless .....

I enjoyed talking to you too, FRiend.
