Survey: 70 Percent Want Feds To Keep Hands Off Confederate Flag

While the left desperately seeks to exploit racial divisions for political gain, the majority of Americans wonder why so many remain intolerant of the Confederate flag while they, simultaneously, pretend to oppose the flag out of a mistaken sense of “tolerance.” According to a new report, a whopping 70% of Americans want the federal government to leave the flag alone.

According to a Tuesday Suffolk University/USA Today survey, 70 percent of respondents said they do not want the federal government imposing a ban on the sale or manufacture of the Confederate flag.

The issue took enter stage following the Charleston attack after a photo emerged of alleged gunman Dylann Roof posing with the Confederate flag. And the Suffolk University/USA Today survey was conducted June 25-29, right in the middle of the backlash against the Confederate flag.

According to Suffolk University, following Gov. Nikki Haley’s (R) calls for the Confederate flag to be removed from South Carolina’s Capitol grounds, 42 percent of Americans at large agreed — and 42 percent disagreed. When the questions was asked specifically to southerners, 49 percent of respondents said the flag “represents Southern history and heritage and is not racist.” Only “34 percent said it is racist and should be removed from official locations.”

Regarding federal action banning the sale or manufacture of the Confederate flag, 70 percent of respondents opposed it and 19 percent supported it.

The same survey found that only 38 percent of Americans believed the Charleston attack was a reflection of a larger problem of racism in America.

Here’s what real tolerance is: allowing others to hold a different opinion without labeling them “bigots” or dismissing their opinion as simply unacceptable.

You’re joking, right? After the last six years you really asked that question?

I took a drive around town today and noticed many businesses and homes that had been flying the confederate flag for many years have taken them down.

I went to buy fireworks this afternoon with my kid. There was a nice couple who happed to be black standing next to us choosing what they wanted. They chose 10 “Whistling Dixie” fountains with the Rebel Flag on them. Didn’t care one bit. Probably would be called ‘Uncle Toms’ for their purchase.

Where’s Nikki Haley these days?

Surely she has the guts to face the fire for her shameless and ignorant call to remove the CBF. No?

Well Nick, seems you learned well from the Establishment Republicans to pander and be spineless. Problem is you’ve been duped into believing the future belongs to the weak and unprincipled politician.

Not just the flag, but things Confederate in general seem endangered. In my hometown of Macon,GA,two downtown Confederate monuments have been targeted. One is a monument to the Confederacy’s soldiers(which towns galore across the South have)with a soldier on top ever vigilant. The other is a monument to the wives, sisters, mothers and sweethearts of the South’s soldiers. Thanks to a former mayor, these downtown memorials may be gone one day. In the city’s Rose Hill cemetery, there is a Confederate section with a flag. I’m just wondering if local soreheads have plans for that.

I bought a couple of Confederate flags to give to friends. Not the battle flag. The 1st Confederate flag.

It looks similar to the Betsy Ross flag.

We’re all flying those.

The liberals are ignorant and don’t know what they are. LOL

The only elected official with the moral authority to ban the Stars and Bars was Abe Lincoln, and he chose not to. Anybody who know a wit about the Civil War knows that the fighting rebs were just poor farm boys who didn’t own slaves. In fact, slave owners were exempt from conscription by the Confederacy. Lincoln was a healer, not a divider.

Sorry to bring it up, but somebody forgot to tell John Wilkes Booth and his friends.

He didn't possess the authority to do that. Displaying a flag is speech, and speech is protected.

If I'm wrong about that, then that Union that ole Abe so ably preserved must be destroyed!
