Majority see Confederate flag as symbol of pride, not hate

A majority of Americans view the Confederate flag more as a symbol of Southern pride than racism, according to a new poll.

Fifty-seven percent of Americans said they see the flag as evoking Southern pride in the CNN/ORC poll released Thursday, compared to 33 percent who believe it is racist. Those numbers show little movement since a similar poll from 2000.

Guess all the media tantruming didn't have much of an effect.

If the poll also showed "a slim majority" supporting removing the flag from state property nationally, it must mean a majority in South Carolina want the flag to remain.

It’s a symbol of rebellion against the Feds.

Nice when someone rolls out the truth weeks later after the damage has been done.

I'm not blaming this entity for this, but where's our rapid response team?

Intentions no longer matter. Next to be labeled “hate” will be all Christian symbols. Wonder if Walmart, Amazon and all will ban all but liberal Christian materials, too.

I am not trying to say the Confederate flag is good or bad. I do think the banning of it is a dangerous sign of things to come, given that the left equates Christianity with hate in the same way. Already leftist groups like the ACLU refuse to support even the Religious Freedom legislation after the Supremes gave preferred legal standing to homosexuals. Look for the “hate group” label to radically expand.

We have the blind, mushy, fearful middle to thank for this.

I bought my first Confederate flag this week, and I am not even from the South.

Led by so called "leaders" such as Nikki Haley and Lindsey Graham, it is amazing the percentage is at 57%. The GOP needs to grow a spine.

Absolutely correct. That is the real reason why traitors like Senator McConnell want to get rid of it now.

It just looks good, so it needs to stick around on style points alone. I can see where it shouldnt fly at govt sites though. Otherwise its every bit the equal of the (stolen) Rainbow F(l)ag.

Well your candidate Mitt Walker disagrees with you. He wants to see the Confederate flag go bye bye. I just want to see Walker go bye bye.

What is Southern pride anyway? What is Southern heritage? For whites I get it was good for them not so much for blacks who were prevented from being educated by state law, they were property to be sold and abused if their owner wanted too.
The Confederate Constitution didn’t embrace liberty for all. It did embrace slaveowners right to get his slaves.

“Majority of Americans see Confederate flag as symbol of pride, not hate”

That’s the problem. This government could care less what Americans think. Now if they were french, arabs or illegals... the flag would be here forever (by executive order)
