Walker To Wisconsin: I Won't 'Coerce You To Act Against Your Religious Beliefs'
Talking Point Memo ^ | June 26, 2015 | Ahiza Garcia

Posted on 06/27/2015 12:59:39 AM PDT by Cincinatus' Wife

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R) said Friday in an emailed statement that the Supreme Court made a “grave mistake” in it’s decision to legalize gay marriage across all 50 states.

Walker, a potential 2016 Republican presidential candidate, said the Court’s decision in Obergefell v. Hodges left the American people with only one alternative.

“I believe this Supreme Court decision is a grave mistake,” Walker said. “As a result of this decision, the only alternative left for the American people is to support an amendment to the U.S. Constitution to reaffirm the ability of the states to continue to define marriage.”

Below is Walker’s full statement:

I believe this Supreme Court decision is a grave mistake. Five unelected judges have taken it upon themselves to redefine the institution of marriage, an institution that the author of this decision acknowledges ‘has been with us for millennia.’ In 2006 I, like millions of Americans, voted to amend our state constitution to protect the institution of marriage from exactly this type of judicial activism. The states are the proper place for these decisions to be made, and as we have seen repeatedly over the last few days, we will need a conservative president who will appoint men and women to the Court who will faithfully interpret the Constitution and laws of our land without injecting their own political agendas. As a result of this decision, the only alternative left for the American people is to support an amendment to the U.S. Constitution to reaffirm the ability of the states to continue to define marriage.

Recognizing that our Founders made our Constitution difficult to amend, I am reminded that it was first amended to protect our ‘First Freedom’ - the free exercise of religion. The First Amendment does not simply protect a narrow ‘right to worship,’ but provides broad protection to individuals and institutions to worship and act in accordance with their religious beliefs. In fact, the Wisconsin constitution explicitly protects the rights of conscience of our citizens. I can assure all Wisconsinites concerned about the impact of today’s decision that your conscience rights will be protected, and the government will not coerce you to act against your religious beliefs.

I call on the president and all governors to join me in reassuring millions of Americans that the government will not force them to participate in activities that violate their deeply held religious beliefs. No one wants to live in a country where the government coerces people to act in opposition to their conscience. We will continue to fight for the freedoms of all Americans.

Why not just call for civil disobedience? It worked for civil rights, why not religious rights.

Can imagine the news stories of the federal Nazis beating women and children as they are praying peacefully outside a church?

Don’t think for one minute that either or both of your statements will never happen. I like to say, “never say never”.

Indeed; that is the minimum that it is going to take. The assault on the churches has already started. Churches will lose their tax exempt status, they will be sued, their pastors will be sued for hate speech, the discrimination bias charges will fly. If Christians do not unite in the millions, they will be subjugated and erased from the country.

It is time for Christians tovstandvup before we are run over. We never believed it would happen here, but we are seeing the destruction of our rights and we can’t wait for someone else to pick up the baton.

Stand up to what? How? Where? It is primarily Christian conservatives being steam rolled in congress...despite huge conservative pressure on lawmakers.

Christians have been active. Maybe not to the degree your speaking of, but there has been a ground swell of political involvement in the last half decade +-.

Think about it. The republican majority in the house increased / won the senate. Majority of statehouses and governorships went right. Texas certainly charged to the conservative right for sure. Had to throw that in...lol.

Seriously, folks have been very active. Town We’ve been stonewalled, lied to, deceived over and over.

Ok...so, with that said, how, who, what, where? Short of massive civil disobiedience...it’s been done.

So, now we’re going to need to pass an Amendment for every damn thing the SCOTUS/D.C. decide to try to shove down our throat; instead of re-affirming the 9th and 10th *TO* the bastards?

How about being a ‘leader’ and paraphrase Jackson “You’ve subverted the Constitution w/ your rulings, now, come enforce them”

Ah, but I see that would only re-dredge the 60’s Lefty-culture (look at the RACISTS) and hold no hope that We the Sheeple would stand up to arrest or the Guard when it was called out.

How massive must the civil disobedience be before you notice?

“I can assure all Wisconsinites concerned about the impact of today’s decision that your conscience rights will be protected, and the government will not coerce you to act against your religious beliefs.”

Statewide not big enough?

So, Texas, Louisiana and Wisconsin Governors have declared that the First Amendment trumps the queer decision by the SCOTUS

It won't stop. The challenges will not be in state courts, they will be filed in federal courts where the progressive allies are.

I look at everything primarily through a biblical lens. Our creator told us in his operators manual for us that these things were to happen.

The church is under attack. May not seem like it so much now, but there will be militant gays that will roam looking for a church or religious institution to challenge in the courts.

I believe when you accept something from the gubbamint, they immediately have a hook in you. Therefore, churches should at once cancel their 501c3 tax exempt status and begin paying taxes. Arrrg you say!

May have to put off the expansion or hiring a new Sunday school teacher...whatever, but they'd gain their freedom from government.

The 14th Amendment was passed in 1868 to give blacks certain rights. It was not about marriage and it damn sure was not intended to be a basis for homosexual this or that as a homosexual act was a felony in every state in the union then and punishable by prison.

Or he could just assert the 10th Ammendment which he will never do. But he’s no worse than our RINO Governor Nathan Deal who won’t do it either or likely any other governor. So just get ready for the new normal.

Then it becomes even more useless, rejected and unenforced along the way.

Once the 1st subversion is done, what matter that another 10 or 1000 are added??

Govt, not even *just* SCOTUS, has shown time and time again, they care not to any checks-n-balances nor limits upon We the People....yet We, overwhelmingly, vote the same in over and over.

In this instance, Congress should start proceedings....but I would never hold my breath waiting for that will never be.

How long before applications for government employment or military service question one’s religious affiliation? You’re Southern Baptist? Presto, no government job or military service, since they’re all homophobes.

See where this is headed?

That’s how it’s done in totalitarian governments. Good point.
