Today, the country has suffered a terrible blow. Over the past week, the fight for states’ rights, which has been going on since the founding of the union, has suffered two terrible blows. The Confederate Naval Jack -- colloquially, and erroneously referred to as the “Stars and Bars”—has been taken down by popular opinion, and in its place, and at the behest of the highest court, the striped flag of gay pride has arisen to fly higher than ever before. Now, the purpose of this is not to comment on the rightness or wrongness of homosexuality, or of gay marriage, but rather it is to comment on the underlying issue: states’ rights. Many people (erroneously) associate the confederate flag with racism. That is a shame. The flag is actually used to represent the issue of state’s rights (the primary issue of the civil war). When a person flies the “stars and bars”, they are not proclaiming that they agree with slavery. Instead, they are saying that they believe that states are sovereign. The flag is, predominately, flown to protest the federal government overstepping its bounds. It pains me greatly, therefore, that the symbol is so often misunderstood. Today, the Supreme Court again overstepped its bounds. It ruled that states are no longer permitted to uphold the sanctity of marriage. Now, regardless of what you believe, it cannot be ignored that marriage is a state institution. When the minister pronounces a couple husband and wife, he says “by the power vested in me by God and by the state…” He does not say “…and by the federal government.” The important matter here, then, is not whether homosexuals are permitted to marry or not. The issue is whether the federal government can decide the issue. It is but one more step toward a federal government that believes it has complete authority. That this decision comes on the heels of the destruction of the Confederate Naval Jack is (I’m sure) purely coincidental, but to me it does show a pattern that will bring about our doom. The enemy is very cunning and has many tool of deception and destruction.
Perhaps Freepers should adopt the Stars and Bars as our flag in protest of this sick decision

I just got two ‘stars and bars’ for friends.
I am thinking about buying some kind of boom box to play Dixie every time some self-serving politician comes to town.
In the meantime I am calling all my so-called representatives and playing Dixie into their answering machines.
Our politicians do not represent us. They represent themselves. I’m tired of them.
There should be an additional panel with the American flag upside down.
I think it’s time to put up the “Jolly Roger”.

Now, that’s interesting. Some Southern Nationalists have adopted a new flag- a black saltire on a white field. I didn’t renew my League of the South (which I’d only had for a year) because they appear to be adopting it.
This is an alternative I could live with. Especially under the circumstances. It’s very striking.
