Cow pee is nothing more than a wasted and misdirected item which can be used to grow beneficial organisms (like carbon sequestering mushrooms) instead of destructive ones (like algae blooms).

There wasn’t any nitrate fertilizer back then.

There are no cows in Rocky Mtn. Nat. Park and hardly any cows for hundreds of miles west of it. There are millions of tourists though, who each bring their pee with them when they vacation there.
To: Vince Ferrer
what happened when millions and millions of bison peed?
Although there was no fertilizer, there were tens of thousands of times more animals and thousands of times the concentration
the person that dreamed this one up needs a good horsewhipping

I’ve taken a few leaks in the woods of Rocky Mtn. Nat. Park myself so I reckon I’m to blame. I know the backpacker/hiker’s ethos of ‘pack it in, pack it out’ but I’m just not that committed.

I remember when algae blooms were caused by excess phosphorous compounds from laundry detergents.
I guess science is re-invented as required in the 21st century.

Carried north? Really? I'm not familiar with wind patterns in that part of the world.

A north wind would be the rarest of all in the Park. Not to mention that there are just not many cattle for hundreds of miles south of the park.

Cattle are not contributing to much of it. Herds and grazing leases have been dwindling in size and number. Wildlife have always been most of the cause. Over a hundred years ago, high mountain elevations were home to extremely large numbers of ruminants and predators as compared to now.
It’s always been wise to avoid drinking untreated surface water in CO (bacteria, protozoa,...). People died in the distant past from doing so.

"When it rains or snows, the ammonium nitrate falls back to earth."
Soil on the Rockies, especially in high mountain basins (look like dry prairies), is extremely sterile for lack of fertilizer.
The soil is also very hard packed for lack of plant cellulose that would otherwise keep the soil loose enough to retain water. And the water does not run off except for what runs into the rivers and creeks from the peaks. The water in those basins mentioned above evaporates very quickly, especially in the winds.

Why is raw nitrogen in our national parks? HINT: Nitrogen comprises about 14% of air!

OH my, it is even worse than I thought. Soon we will have to stop breathing nitrogen to save the planet like CO2 is causing global warming.

Time to throw in some Vietnamese Snakehead Fish into the pond. That will shake up the ecosystem, immediatemont.
How about getting some good algae eating fish. A win-win situation. Fat fish can be eaten. Fat ecofreaks can’t, at least not yet!
To: Gator113
Save the Planet - eat an ecofreak leftist. Helps to reduce carbon footprints, bullshit, and Democrat voters.
We win. BURP!!

I’ve been burying ‘em out behind the barn. Didn’t know I could eat ‘em. ;>)
