That's the truth, which is why people are terrified of getting involved in anything racial. No matter what the facts, if the usual suspects brand you a racist, the first thing you can do is kiss your job good-bye. The only people who can afford to be honest about race are people who don't have jobs or don't need their jobs. This society really makes me sick.

Technically true to a point, I once fired a hourly manager for cause and was still required to testify at an unemployment hearing. Had I not made sure to document all of her picadillos and convince a customer to make a written signed complaint, the company and possibly I would have been the hook, especially since she was poor little Latina.

You're talking about fighting the collection of unemployment insurance, which you still pay when you terminate someone unless you can prove "cause" like theft, repeated absence, etc. She'll undoubtedly be able to collect unemployment, but that won't make her whole, replace her lost income, or give her back her reputation.
