The federal government would be unable to block state laws permitting the use of medical marijuana under legislation that has been approved by a Republican-controlled Senate committee.

The 20-10 vote puts the Senate Appropriations panel on record in favor of permitting people to obtain and dispensaries to provide medicinal marijuana in states where it's permitted and regulated. [...]

Exactly. Anything and everything to reduce the power of the juggernaut federal government is a good thing.

There is no enumerated power that gives Congress the authority to grant states permission to allow medical marijuana.

I’m starting to think legalizing weed might be good - let all the idiots smoke, fail drug tests, and then jobs will open for those who don’t make poor life choices.

Absolutely. Just as long as the courts don't get involved (as they did with gay marriage and abortion) and tell the states' lawmakers what they can and cannot do.

Legalization would also let us get a clearer idea of whether employer pot testing (which not all of them do) confers any economic benefit.

Agreed on all counts. Back to federalism!

We now have 7 homosexual ambassadors, at least 1 homosexual Army General, A massive onslaught of illegal immigrants, massive racial unrest and increased crime across the nation, the middle east is in flames, China is rattling their Saber, Iran is about to get Nuclear ICBMS, Muslims are taking over Europe, the US Government is burning up the presses printing new inflated dollars, and the stupidest idiot to ever serve as President is steering us further into the Abyss.

And of course, this is the time to legalize drugs because we have become a thoroughly un-serious nation.

I see this as a form of pest control. If more stupid people die, we might finally be able to fix some things.

The only thing dumber than doing drugs is trying to use the government to stop people from doing drugs.

Ridiculous.

It's called the TENTH Amendment.

Drug criminalization is a thoroughly un-serious policy.

The problem is we’ll be paying for them too.

Drug criminalizers are Maoists who don't understand what they're doing.

The History of the early 1900s is calling. It says "you are a liar."

The History of the early 1900s is calling.

The DEA says, "In 1880 [...] there were over 400,000 opium addicts in the U.S. [...] By 1900, about one American in 200 was either a cocaine or opium addict." (http://web.archive.org/web/20110529221013/http://www.justice.gov/dea/demand/speakout/06so.htm) 400,000 in a population of 50M is one in 125 - ergo, between 1880 and 1900 addiction declined.

(Nonetheless, in textbook Drug Warrior fashion, they claim, " Addiction skyrocketed." Hilarious!)

Aldous Huxley anticipated this back in 1932... It's called SOMA.

"When the Warden started booming, she had inconspicuously swallowed half a gramme of soma, with the result that she could now sit, serenely not listening, thinking of nothing at all, but with her large blue eyes fixed on the Warden's face in an expression of rapt attention."
