'I love ribs. Ribs and BBQ': Scott Walker tells how he proposed to his wife

Barbecue has a special place in Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker's heart.

The White House aspirant met his wife, Tonette, at a Wisconsin barbecue joint, Saz's, in Milwaukee, and took her back there four months later to propose.

He reminisced about their courtship today while devouring a spare rib at a 'Roast and Ride' event in Boone, Iowa,

'I love ribs. Ribs and BBQ,' he told reporters after he finished his story.

Walker had just finished helping employees of Lynch BBQ, the event catering company, prepare a rack of ribs when he professed his love for barbecue - and his spouse.

'We met at a karaoke night, even though we didn't talk to each other,' he recalled. 'I gave her a napkin with my name on it, because the guy I was with said we just kept hitting it off.'

The two 'never talked' that night, he said.

But the brazen 24-year-old didn't let that stop him from giving Tonette, a widow who was 12 years older than him, his phone number.

Walker says he passed her a note on a napkin that said, 'Forgive me for being rude, but I gotta go home' because I gotta get ready 'for work in the morning. We'll have dinner some time.

I like Walker, but his support for the Patriot Act and the fact that he wears gloves to eat ribs makes me wonder.

I think he was helping a catering company prepare the ribs. Maybe that’s the reason for the gloves.

He was serving food to others, and was badgered to stop and take a bite for the photo op.

I don’t believe Getty images are allowed here. You might want to ask the moderator to delete that.

Last night, my lovely and I went to dinner with our lib friends and had a great political conversation. They have the “I’m ready for Hillary” bumper sticker on their eco friendly truck which almost kept me from getting in it when they offered to drive.

So after going through the normal convo about our kids, when we are going to the range, the association we got down to it. “Who do you want for President? I was asked.” I know they think Cruz is the anti-christ and I didn’t feel like tormenting them so I said Walker. They went nuts.

“He hates women, he hates unions, he hates government workers (they are both retired DoD employees), he destroyed Wisconsin. Why would you want him as President?” I stepped back a second and changed course because I already knew I wasn’t winning this argument.

I asked them if they liked Obamacare. They said yes. I asked them if they had Obamacare. They said no, (they are exempt) but they do want Universal healthcare because then everyone gets it. So then I asked them if they believe under Universal healthcare should there be exemptions. They said no because everyone is covered. Just like Obamacare? I asked. They said irrelevant. Fine....

So I started to rattle off everyone under Obamacare who has exemptions. I then said it has to be a coincidence that everyone Scott Walker hates (they used that word) also has or is fighting to get exemptions from Obamacare. And by god, they all happen to be supporters of the Democrats. And three times they tried to get rid of him, even to the point of filing frivolous lawsuits yet the people of Wisconsin still kept him in office.

I then said, Walker is basically fighting against those who wanted to keep everything and everybody on the Democrat plantation in Wisconsin. He’s against handouts to supporters using tax dollars in exchange for votes. And he will do the same thing when he gets to Washington. I think that’s a good thing.

By now they are looking at each other in shock. “Yeah, but but he hates women.” I said fair enough. Why does he hate women? Then they go into the abortion part of the show, which included the church paying. (won’t bore you with that). I say, fair enough, let’s just make the pill available over the counter. This way we take insurance companies as well as the church out of the game. Whether you pay 10 bucks a month in insurance or 10 bucks a month over the counter we can agree it isn’t a payment issue. Again, “you can’t do that. It goes againsta woman’s right to choose.” I said choose what? Go to the doctor, he tells you what dosages or formula you need, you go to CVS, look at the box and buy it.

I can see they want to talk about other candidates and continue down this path, but I interrupt them. “Since I know Hillary is your candidate, who by the way is a disciple of Alinsky which puts her in the far left camp right off the bat. Despite you saying she is a moderate, tell me 2 things she has done since lead counsel on the team prosecuting Nixon for watergate threw her off the team because she was a liar that benefitted this country?” She was part of..she worked towards... she was SecState... She was a senator.

I once again say fair enough. So outside of her having a vajayjay and being over 35, in 40 years she has done absolutely nothing productive to help this country. I said, do you know she pays the women on her staff much less than the men? And we know she likes women. (I let that one sink in for a few secs. My wife kicked me under the table)Then I added one more point. Hillary loves women so much that her foundation takes in millions from arab countries which kill women for going out alone. Sounds to me like she hates women more than Scott Walker does.

Check and mate.

I wish I could be as loquacious as you were with your liberal friends. I know most of these things, but am not organized enough in my thoughts to put them together in a cogent manner. I guess I am not quick on my feet when it comes to verbal sparring.

Good for you, however, in going the distance with these liberal lemmings.

“Good for you, however, in going the distance with these liberal lemmings.”

They were devout Christians who tuened into Atheists. Despite their political leanings they are really good people and dear friends. I always enjoy when they try to tweak me and I turn it around on them. Too predictable.

Keep in touch with them. Maybe you can get them to reverse course.

Good luck.
