My boss is from Rockaway and she says "you's" all the time.

Everyone recognizes her immediately by her accent.

But whenever someone asks about it, she says "what accent?"

She doesn't think she has one.

Rockaway is close to Brooklyn - - -

If you don’t mind, where are you located? Generally.
So that I know what the ‘accent’ may be there, and ‘The Boss’ speech/accent stands out to the locals.

How old/young is your boss???! Is she being serious when she asks ‘what accent?’ Although having an accent, and using bad English, are different.
Someone, who is diplomatic, needs to inform her that the word ‘youse’ is Bad/Incorrect ENGlish. It probably ‘ain’t’ even in the dictionary!
Nope, just looked in my rather old dictionary.

Now, someone without a NY accent may also be saying ‘youse.’
As in’ ‘Hey, youse guys, wanna go to lunch???’

Oops - just looked at your profile. You are in Washington State.
So the Boss moved east to west.
As did we - NY to MD to NM to Calif., over 45 years ago! Moved for Grumman Aerospace, that made the F-14 Tomcat. And the Lunar Lander (LEM) - that was why we were in N. Mexico. Testing the ascent and descent engines on the LEM.
What a culture - and food - shock, going from the east coast to NM. The Mexican food in NM is different from here in Calif.
We loved NM, but will not return as some Grummanites did upon retirement.

LOL! Sent youse a PM.

The boss always speaks like that.

Me, I have the "classic" Midwest accent, as in nothing. At least nothing that youse wouldn't hear on the nightly newscast.

I DON'T sound like a person from Fargo.

Or Sarah Palin.

I have no idea why an Alaskan accent sounds like that.

I once dated a girl from Texas.

She had such a thick accent, or so I thought until I talked to her mother.

Wow!

I asked her what she heard when she listened to GW Bush.

"Naw, he doesn't have an accent. He just talks normal!".

My wife is from Charleston, SC. Although she has no accent after all these years in LA, I used to joke with her, “HOW many syllables does the word ‘door’ have?”

These accent stories are all so funny. I know the U.S. is large, but the regional accents are something else.
Ohhh -Fargo, doncha know - - - !
I remember over 40 years ago hearing a Texas accent in New Mexico. It was the first time I ever heard someone say ‘kiddo’s.’ I didn’t know what the heck she was saying/talking about, me coming from New York, and all!
