‘Gay’ Activist’s Call for Churches to Be Forced to Take Homosexuality Off ‘Sin List’ Draws Concerns
Christian News ^ | 27 May 15 | Heather Clark

Concerns are arising among Christians and online commentators after a homosexual activist recently told a national publication that churches “must be made ‘to take homosexuality off the sin list.'”

Mitchell Gold is the founder of Faith in America, an organization that aims to “end the harm to LGBT youth and families from misguided religious teaching.” He served on the board of directors for the Human Rights Campaign for seven years, and was named on of the “Top 50 Most Powerful Gay People in America” in 2007 by Out Magazine.

In an article written by Frank Buni of the New York Times, Gold is quoted as stating that he believes churches ought to be forced to stop considering homosexual behavior as being sinful.

“Gold told me that church leaders must be made ‘to take homosexuality off the sin list,’ he wrote.

“His command is worthy—and warranted,” Buni commented. “All of us, no matter our religious traditions, should know better than to tell gay people that they’re an offense.”

The Times article centered on Indiana’s Religious Freedom Act and Buni’s assertion that Christian Americans should “jettison” their mindsets about homosexual behavior. He contended that the interpretation of biblical text about homosexuality is “subjective” and “debatable” and said that Christians disregard the “biases and blind spots of [the Bible’s] authors, cultures and eras.”

“So our debate about religious freedom should include a conversation about freeing religions and religious people from prejudices that they needn’t cling to and can indeed jettison, much as they’ve jettisoned other aspects of their faith’s history, rightly bowing to the enlightenments of modernity,” Buni wrote. “Religion is going to be the final holdout and most stubborn refuge for homophobia.”

This has already happened in the US military. Soldiers, sailors, and airmen have been persecuted for being Christian, and believing in God's Word.

Now, the rest of the nation is soon to be compelled to either stand with God, or face persecution if you believe God's Word.

Dear Gay Activist,
You need to take that up with God. He makes the rules.

So, what’s next to be taken off the sin list? Lying? Theft? Murder? Regardless of what these people want to believe, homosexuality is still a sin in the eyes of The Almighty.

This is inevitable if liberals stay in control of shaping public policy long enough.

By the way, there is no sin “list” - there are sins, and the sins of the homosexual are no greater than the sins all of the rest of us commit and for which we need redemption, so this is a completely incorrect premise to state that “they” are an offense any more than any of the rest of us...but that doesn’t negate the fact that it is wrong. The context of his argument is completely twisted. Moreover, the Church is not where this originated and the Church has no authority to “remove” what is or is not sin.

Sounds like a “hate the sin, not the sinner” approach. The wording would presumably place the focus on homosexual activity rather than the relatively modern designation of homosexual identity.

Gay people are not an offense. Their sin is an offense, an offense to God.

“Religion is going to be the final holdout and most stubborn refuge for homophobia.”

What he really means is that Christianity must die.

Queers engage in sinful activity to be sinful. Their joy is in outrage and immorality. They are not trying to be good little boys. They want to be bad and this is a good way for them to fulfill their desire for nastiness. Take that away and they will probably give up the life. It will no longer give them the pleasure of being outrageous.

No, it is not debatable at all. There is now way to interpret it any differently than what it says and it is quite clear. Moreover, it is also a fact of our biology - whether you believe it is way God made us or even if you refuse to believe in God - it is a fact that we are male and female and that is how we bond and reproduce. There is no other natural way, and there is nothing debatable or subjective about this.

SkyPilot: “Now, the rest of the nation is soon to be compelled to either stand with God, or face persecution if you believe God’s Word.”

It saddens me that the nation is coming to this, but I think you’re right. We Christians have had a very easy time in the USA. Now the wheat will be separated from the chaff.

It also saddens me that tolerance is not a two-way street in the USA. We’ve typically been a live and let live nation. Do Christians have a history of tormenting homosexuals? No. They are simply sinners like everyone else.

What torments homosexuals is what’s written in the Bible—God’s revealed wisdom—and a homosexual’s own inner voice that reminds him that he weren’t created, spiritually and physically, for such things.

I didn’t create male and female. That is the natural order of things. If a homosexual is offended by that truth, there is nothing I can do. He may as well be offended by the sun and wind. Male and female is reality.

It’s not just The Bible’s “sin list”, it’s G-d’s “sin list”.

“Religion is going to be the final holdout and most stubborn refuge for homophobia.”

This false premise of christians being homophobia (dislike of or prejudice against homosexual people) is a lie...

As a christian, Christ commands me to love all people. I don't have to condone their lifestyle...

If I dislike drunks behavior, does that make me a drunkphobia ?

Some “churches” are already cooperating with the homosexuals, but there can be no doubt. Homosexual acts are sin. The homosexualists have to twist scripture just like Satan twisted God’s commands to Eve, i.e. “Did God really say....”

Like you wrote, Christ’s Church has no option. They have no authority to remove homosexuality from the list of sins. Christ himself probably couldn’t do that, because the Son of God obeys God the Father and carries out the Father’s will.

1 Corinthians 6:9 “Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men.”

Note that homosexuals are no worse off than adulterers, and I daresay many heterosexual Christians were once adulterers. I use the past tense, because repentance brings forgiveness.

1 Corinthians 6:11 “And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.”

Don’t tell us. We just say it’s a sin and pray for them and that’s the end of it. They should go over to Iran and tell those people to get their minds right. Let us know how it turns out.
