Recanvass Confirms Matt Bevin as Winner of Kentucky Gubernatorial Primary

Results of a recanvass of votes cast in last week’s Kentucky gubernatorial primary confirm that Tea Party-supported Matt Bevin has won.

As Breitbart News reported, Bevin’s original margin of victory was a mere 83 votes. ABC News is now reporting that the recanvassing results show that Bevin held his 83 vote lead.

News of the recanvass outcome was yet another sign of Bevin’s remarkable political comeback. One year ago he was soundly defeated by incumbent Senator Sen. Mitch McConnell in a divisive and vitriolic Republican primary.

The recanvass, which began at 9 a.m. on Thursday, was conducted by every county clerk in the state and supervised by the office of the Secretary of State.

The Louisville Courier-Journal first reported the results of the recanvass early Thursday afternoon: “Matt Bevin appears to have won the GOP primary for governor over James Comer according to a recanvass of the state’s voting machines.”

The recanvassing results were not suprising. As the Courier-Journal reported, “Never has a recanvass changed the result of an election in Kentucky.”

But, but, but Dan Rather and Brian Williams said that The TEA Party is dead...? So did Hillary. And Katie.

Who to believe, huh?

As opposed to "a liquid"?

This is a dilemma for the GOPe...if they don't support Bevin the democrat may win.

Wow. His margin of victory was exactly the same as before the recount. Wouldn’t have happened in a Democrat primary.

Odd. Is it me? I remember when "a solid" was something you celebrated because it meant the diaper was easier to change.

Now it's being compared to "a pissah".

Ick.

Great spin but wrong. He got less votes in the gubentorial primary then he did in the senate primary. A lot less votes.

You need more votes than any other candidate. The total # of numerical votes is irrelevant. Turnout was way lower and it was a race with 3 major candidates rather than 2 like the Senate race (plus a 4th who got 7%).

I’m not a big fan of this guy but this certainly qualifies as a remarkable comeback, going from a terrible Senate challenger who only got any votes at all by default because many on the right hate Mitch McConnell, to impressing people that didn’t like him before and beating a popular statewide official (James Comer) who by all logic should have been the unanimous consensus choice for the gubernatorial nomination.

You could certainly argue he’d have a lost a runoff with Comer (he did get a slightly lower PERCENTAGE of the vote than he did in the Senate race) but we can’t know that for sure. The third guy, a RINO named Heiner, went hard negative against Comer, he and his supporters may have backed Bevin in a runoff.

Heiner is a RINO? My (very conservative) uncle lives in Louisville and thinks that Heiner is the bee’s knees (and voted for him in the primary).

Don’t worry McConnell and his cadre on this forum and elsewhere will sabotage him by or before election day.
