Rhode Island health officials are blaming dating apps, such as Tinder and Grindr, for a spike in syphilis, gonorrhea and HIV cases in the state.
Syphilis cases have spiked 79%, while gonorrhea has risen 30%, according to data from 2013 and 2014. New cases of HIV increased by 32%.
"These data send a clear signal that despite the progress we have made in reducing STDs and HIV over the years, there is more work to do," state health director Dr. Nicole Alexander-Scott said in a statement.
Officials say the spike there follows a national trend.
"High-risk behaviours include using social media to arrange casual and often anonymous sexual encounters, having sex without a condom, having multiple sex partners, and having sex while under the influence of drugs or alcohol," the statement says.
Health officials also attributed the increase to improved testing.
Banging half the state could get you multicolored junk? Who knew?
If Tinder and Grindr are responsible, then arrest them and charge them. These two shouldn’t be running around loose.
That suggests that Tinder actually works, which I don’t believe.
The root cause is liberalism
if you flaunt 10,000 years of civilization you get burned
It’s more “Mz. Jones gay sex ed class” and Mr. Smhith’s Liberalism 101 college courses than Tinder/Grindr IMO.
Wow Bert we can agree on something!
I’m not seeing the stats that reveal that these cases are overwhelmingly men-with-men transmissions. I suppose providing that info would be racist.
VERY good point.
The app did it.
***************************
Male homosexuals are prone to the above.
Grindr is a homo hookup app. So I would assume most of the people using it are perverts
So what they’re saying is... you can get the clap from the app.
I got As in stats in college, two semesters!
Grindr and Blendr are owned by the same person.
For a good reason ;)
Put your junk in the Bass-O-Matic
Tinder and Grindr — sound like henchmen for a James Bond villian.
And in spite of someone’s best efforts, heterosexual women are not.
I could get a Nobel for this.
