“John Wayne is perfectly cast. That is, he gambles, fights, woos and rides with consummate ease if not histrionic aplomb.”

That sounds like the Duke, all right. Alas, Netflix doesn’t currently have this Republic feature available.

Montgomery Clift is playing in “Foxhole in the Parlor.” I wonder if that is a Broadway effort to address what we now know as PTSD.

Winchell's daughter's name was actually Walda, not Wanda. In the 1945 picture she looks older than her 18 years. From what I can tell, she had psychiatric issues for at least part of her life. I did find this short article about her going missing, two years after the NYT article. She gained two bit parts in 1957 movies.

“I wonder if that is a Broadway effort to address what we now know as PTSD.”

Sounds like that is exactly what it is.

For an industry located in California, Hollywood sure likes to destroy the state.
