John Wayne is perfectly cast. That is, he gambles, fights, woos and rides with consummate ease if not histrionic aplomb.
That sounds like the Duke, all right. Alas, Netflix doesnt currently have this Republic feature available.

Winchell's daughter's name was actually Walda, not Wanda. In the 1945 picture she looks older than her 18 years. From what I can tell, she had psychiatric issues for at least part of her life. I did find this
short article about her going missing, two years after the NYT article. She gained
two bit parts in 1957 movies.
