All Three of the Network Affiliates(WOWT, KETV, KMTV)preemptively broadcast about 6 or so hour of the Funeral to the Final Graveside Service. Made ME DAMN proud of ALL of Western Iowa and Eastern Nebraska(teared up some too).

Yes, it was very moving. I had trouble going to sleep last night, with all the images and emotions going in my brain.

What a deeply moving outpouring of respect and love. Brought tears. Someday her little baby who never got to know Mother will be able to see how much Mom meant to the community. It’s tragic. God bless her family. Don’t know how they will ever get over the timing of this loss.

If you have ever attended the funeral of a fallen officer in person, it’s something you never quite get over in a lot of ways and I’m not referring to only the grief and loss.

Yes, I went to one for a young man (Army) who was a couple years ahead of my son in high school, also wrestled. My son was in Iraq at the time (USMC). It was extremely memorable. It was in 2006, and I went with the mother of another wrestler/USMC active. I kept walking up to the Patriot Guard riders and thanking them, tears in my eyes, just in awe of what they did that day.

I guess the one I went to was for a service member, not police officer.

But my stepson is a police officer. So I can imagine but don’t want to think about it.

I’m not a veteran, but I am unable to discern a police funeral from a military one. Somehow I cannot equate a cop dying for his city to a soldier dying for his country. Putting the American flag on a cop’s coffin really crosses the line and is an insult to our troops, IMO. To be more blunt, IT REALLY PISSES ME OFF. If the police depts want to be nationalized, so be it. But until then, NO AMERICAN FLAGS ON POLICE COFFINS! That should be reserved for our troops!

There is another whole story about the flag.

I am the daughter of a veteran, wife of a veteran, mother of a veteran, step-mother of 2 veterans... I don’t think that veterans begrudge the flag being used to honor patriots, JMHO.

Great pics, thanks for sharing. I am happy to see my Nebraska PGR brothers and sisters were there.

Unfortunately, so were the Westboro Baptist Church pukes.

Police supporters use large sheets to block presence of Westboro protesters.

ROSEANN MORING
Police supporters hold large white sheets with blue lines across them to shield those mourners from Westboro Baptist Church protesters.

One police funeral I sincerely hope you never have to attend.
