Oh how I hate the term Big Tent. You probably hate it too when talking about Republicans. Why is that? Its almost always used in the context of giving up our conservative values to accommodate the culture. Its high time we redefine that term and I think Ted Cruz like Reagan is doing just that. The reaction from some segments of the Christian community on Ted Cruzs fundraiser that were hosted by two gay men in New York bothers me. If Cruz isolated himself and refused to meet with anyone whos gay they would all get approval from the evangelical right. If he reaches out (and doesnt pander) which I believe he truly has with this group we start questioning his motives. What evidence is there that Cruz is pandering to homosexuals? As Christians, dont we want to reach out to this group for Christ? Are those running for president allowed to present a truly conservative vision for America that includes everyone? This group in Manhattan gave him money.
There is no evidence they gave him money because they thought in return that Cruz would soften his opposition to so called gay marriage. There are those that say Cruz should not of accepted money from these guys. They gave him money because of his positions on a host of other issues including national security and less government. Why should Cruz return the money? Why should he not accept donations?
With Obamas presidency we have become more polarized politically then ever before. I can understand and sympathize with many Evangelicals who reacted negatively to Ted Cruzs fundraiser in New York. Weve been lied to and double crossed time and time again by the Republican party and we trust nobody. Outreach defined by the establishment is literally pandering to the left and accepting their premise. We must redefine outreach. We must stand firmly by our principles and not compromise and still be able to reach out with a bold conservative message that attracts more people than just evangelicals. Im constantly amazed by how many people who are not evangelicals and are even social liberals that love Ted Cruz. Weve been lied to for so long by the media. The media states that having social conservative values is a deal breaker and will only attract other social conservatives and alienate everyone else. When you have someone like Ted Cruz who is able to effectively articulate a full spectrum conservative message you will attract those who want smaller government even gay libertarians. You can get their vote without pandering to them either or surrendering your values.

Thank you, xzins. :)
I smile every time I see it
I’m glad. :)
See my tagline.
I love that!

The scourge of H1B visas has destroyed employment for Americans in the Silicon Valley, in the chip industry at least. I've only worked about 50% of the time in the past 5 years, and I'm a very experienced engineer. My town of Sunnyvale is now Mumbai West.
I normally harbor no ill-will towards immigrants, but the story is this: they hold zero American values, and will only hire other Indians. And of course, there is no enforcement against such discrimination by our worthless local, state, or federal government, nor will there every be. ($$$$$)
So, unless and until Ted Cruz revisits this position, I am solidly out of the Cruz camp. This issue is FAR too personal for me.
Go Walker!
I appreciate the wisdom of Will Stauff and the message to the Republican Party in this particular piece. This man really understands what Ted Cruz hopes to accomplish in his run for POTUS.
It’s Cruz or we lose
A couple of those will come from Cruz.
And, Huckabee is a PUTZ!
The left is again picking candidates for us, and they want Bush!
No way Huckster is ahead of Cruz!
The questions are irrelevant at this point. Favorable opinion, first choice, 2nd choice, etc.
Should relate to this stage of a campaign.
How well do you know candidates?
How well do you know their positions on issues?
Which candidate do you think will end up being the nominee?
Which candidate would you prefer to be the nominee?
Should always be likely voters. Most polls are registered voters.
Should be weighted for red state, purple state, blue state republicans from last election.
You can thank the big chains for that.
bump
Ah, the polls...
These are bogus and everyone knows it. You can’t have an average without Cruz being included in some of these.
Big Tent definitions
1) Ideology. Alan Keyes ran against Obama for Senate. My co-worker said “I’m pro-life. But 2A is my issue. My wife and daughter are not going to have abortions. But somebody might try to take their guns away. All Keyes talks about is abortion. He never talks about my issue. Needless to say, Keyes lost to Obama. Problem how to bring the single issue voters together around one candidate while the candidate has to have a message with
2) Diversity. We need to welcome the young, women, Blacks, Hispanics and other minorities. So when a young Black/Native American por-life, small government Miss America and Miss Illinois runs for Congress the establishment RINOs make savage racist attacks against her and raise massive outside money to defeat her with a former staffer whose staff job was to cover up the sexual indiscretions of RINOs.
3) Country Club aka establishment vs outsiders. When a woman, a pro-lifer, a pro-choicer, a Black, a Hispanic, a Conservative, a libertarian feels excluded from the Republican group he tries to join the person assumes they are excluded from the “club” due to their identity attribute.
False. They are excluded from the club because they are not in the club. (circular but that is the way it is.) Nobody wants nobody what nobody sent.
I went into a new group and was excluded, despite the fact that we agreed on all issues. I reminisced about 40 years ealier when we College Republicans threw a TV down the air shaft of Chicago’s Conrad Hilton. Being at that ancient event bought membership into the local club. We often call it “KISS MY SENIORITY”.
