Judaism's Sexual Revolution: Why Judaism (and then Christianity) Rejected Homosexuality
orthodoxytoday.org ^ | Dennis Prager

Posted on 05/21/2015 6:18:24 AM PDT by RoosterRedux

When Judaism demanded that all sexual activity be channeled into marriage, it changed the world. The Torah's prohibition of non-marital sex quite simply made the creation of Western civilization possible. Societies that did not place boundaries around sexuality were stymied in their development. The subsequent dominance of the Western world can largely be attributed to the sexual revolution initiated by Judaism and later carried forward by Christianity.

This revolution consisted of forcing the sexual genie into the marital bottle. It ensured that sex no longer dominated society, heightened male-female love and sexuality (and thereby almost alone created the possibility of love and eroticism within marriage), and began the arduous task of elevating the status of women.

It is probably impossible for us, who live thousands of years after Judaism began this process, to perceive the extent to which undisciplined sex can dominate man's life and the life of society. Throughout the ancient world, and up to the recent past in many parts of the world, sexuality infused virtually all of society.

This article was posted back in April in general/chat, but it is so timely and important, I thought it should be posted again in News.

Hope you agree?;-)

And since man/woman marriage is the command of God,
liberals oppose it.

It was not Judism that starting this. It was God.

It’s a BRILLIANT essay, one of Prager’s very best. (Among many.)

Between the Judgment of God on abortion and gay marriage I doubt the Republic survives...but I suppose liberals will think they have won. Since they don’t believe in hell they will certainly have a mind changing paradigm when they get there.

It’s from 1993, but this is the second time I’ve seen it reposted online within the last year or so.

Judaism didn’t create marriage. God created it.

Yes. Dennis Prager seems to be saying marriage was just a very useful creation of man, that Judaism developed marriage to solve real world problems. The implication is that religion is man made—just part of the evolutionary, development process as civilizations grew.

According to scripture, marriage came from God—not man. It was part of God’s original design, i.e. Adam and Eve. Judaism didn’t create it. They received it from God.

Did Prager say that man wrote Torah? I missed that part.

Prager is not a traditionally religious Jew. He has affection for tradition and emphasizes its utilitarian qualities. A lot of religious believers will find him not to be their cup of tea, although there’s no doubt he’s a positive influence.

I heard a lib talking about how smart the historical Jews were - so smart that they knew to restrict their diets and cleanliness habits for a healthier society.

And then I piped up with - yeah, they were SO smart, they invented time travel! Yep, there’s no other explanation, is there, for the detailed description of events that happened over 800 years after they were written about?

Of course, the lib in question didn’t have the biblical knowledge to understand what I was talking about.

It’s possible I’ve misinterpreted what Dennis Prager wrote. Why write that the “Torah” created marriage, when the Torah is God’s will as revealed through the prophets?

Perhaps Prager did not stress that enough, the G-d-given-ness of the commandments. Very fitting as we prepare to celebrate Sunday the anniversary of the giving of the Torah 3327 years ago (I think it’s the golden, or perhaps platinum anniversary.) AND of course that was only after Noah received the 7 universal laws for all mankind, moral family relations being one of them.

Actually, that was my point. Mr. Prager seems to be focused on the history of it all, and he seems to miss the much more important part. The Torah was divinely inspired. It came from God. It’s not just a good idea developed by Jews as civilization evolved.
