Huckabee skipping Iowa Straw Poll
The Hill ^ | 05/21/2015 | Ben Kamisar

Former Gov. Mike Huckabee (R-Ark.) will skip the Iowa Straw Poll in 2016, he confirmed in an op-ed for The Des Moines Register in which he questions the relevancy of the poll that helped spur his 2008 bid

“I have concluded this year's Iowa straw poll will serve only to weaken conservative candidates and further empower the Washington ruling class and their hand-picked candidates,” he wrote.

“It's clear that pitting conservative candidates with limited resources against each other in a non-binding and expensive summer straw poll battle, while allowing billionaire-backed establishment candidates to sit out, will only wound and weaken the conservative candidates who best represent conservative and hard-working Iowans.”

Of course he is. He has zero chance of winning.

bingo. He knew we was going to lose, and since he would be expected to do well, that would have eliminated him basically.

Of course The Huckster has no real support and will fail anyway.

Why doesn't Huckabee just skip all the primaries?

Huck sees the writing on the wall.
Jeb is still charging windmills.

Here's Huck (on guitar) at the Ames Straw Poll.
I agree. He needs to skip the next one.

Amazingly dishonest response by Huckabee. He’s skipping the poll that propelled him last time because it’s irrelevant? That is unconscionable politics and should disqualify him from any kind of consideration at all by any honest person. He’s skipping it because he’s losing badly.

Someone...Rush maybe...said that some of these guys run for president as resume enhancers. I can see that being necessary in Huck’s case.

I believe the Huckster and Limpsey are being directed to run for POTUS simply
to keep Ted Cruz from gaining huge momentum building wins
in the early southern primaries.

These two RINO hacks will dutifully bow out once that main goal is accomplished.

Amazingly dishonest response by Huckabee

You mean, amazingly typical from Huckster - he's been amazingly dishonest for many years. Some Freepers still fall prey to his schtick.

How can any Freeper not see that Huck did NOT disavow the Iowa poll the last time around when he did well?

The guy is all smoke and mirrors.

I believe you are correct. Huck is just running interference for Bush, so there’s no need for Huck to join this Iowa GOP fundraiser. But he’ll spend Bush money on the Iowa Caucuses, I’ll bet.

I have no doubt that Huck entered the race with the sole purpose of injuring Cruz and Walker, both with evangelical backgrounds.

How can any Freeper not see

That is a question that I ask so often around FR...on Huck, on a number of things...but very often on Huck.

“the conservative candidates who best represent conservative and hard-working Iowans.”

Well, one thing is sure: the Huckster couldn’t be referring to himself in that statement. He is a tax and spend, open-borders, Nanny Stater. He is no conservative. The straw poll may well be a waste of time and money. But I suspect the reason he will not participate is that he can’t afford it. If he could, he would probably be all over it.

I think the dumbass thought he had a chance to pick up the pieces and get the nomination after the bloodletting. All any real conservative or libertarian/conservative would have to do to beat him is show that clip on youtube of him demanding in a speech before the Arkansas legislature that they raise taxes.

Great!

Then scratch the Huckster from the August televised debate!

He’s just running interference anyway.

True, especially Cruz IMO - the GOP e knows that Newt could taken that SC momentum into Florida and ended it for Mitt in 2012 - by staying on his SC message. He abandoned that message day one in Florida and attacked Mitt. They know Cruz can very well win SC, and that he won't be as foolish as Newt was in Florida. They know there's a path for Cruz to have this thing almost sewn up by Florida, or for it to be down to only Cruz and Walker by that point.

Of course, for Huckabee to foil Cruz and Walker, he'll have to do well in Iowa (he won't this time) and then really entangle the evangelicals in SC.

I think the GOP e could live with Walker, though he's not their first choice. They hate Cruz with a passion.
