A European project to build a military drone by 2025 took wing on Monday as Germany, France and Italy signed a deal to start technical work and end their reliance on US- and Israeli-made models.
The scheme for a pilotless aircraft built by the three EU powers could be worth up to 1 billion ($1.2 billion) if it gets airborne, officials said after the deal was signed in Brussels.
The goal of the Euro-drone is that we can decide by ourselves in Europe on what we use it, where we deploy the Euro-drone and how we use it, German Defense Minister Ursula von der Leyen said.
This makes us, the Europeans, independent.

Yet you clowns just allowed Russia to roll into Ukraine, and hold membership with NATo at American taxpayers expense.
Another “beneficial crisis” to push their own agenda forward.
They effectively control NATO now anyhow. Clinton handed them control during the Balkans debacle in the 1990s.
So let them PAY for NATO. Also let them PAY FOR the United Nations which we should abandon to their own elitist corruption. One CAN’T BUY FRIENDS, so let’s quit paying the tab.
The V3?
Why hand it to them even if they pay for it?
To teach them that nothing is for free and the U S is sick and tired of footing the bill for their security at the cost of our own security and economy. They’ll soon find out which side their bread is buttered on.
I think you need to look up the European Union’s history first. It was conceived as a “third power” to rival the US. There are consequences to setting ambitions like that loose on the globe.
I’m very familiar with the history of the E.U. Spent many years in Europe. The E.U. is on shaky footing right now with certain of its members.
Not shaky enough. Take note of which members are uniting behind the drone program in particular.
Remember, Jean Monnet said that “Europe will be forged in crises, and will be the sum of the solutions adopted for those crises” . . . that is an insidious way to govern.
Rather like saying, “If God did not exist, it would be necessary to invent him.”
That came out of left field.
You haven’t been on here long, so welcome to FR. Do you know what this site is about?
I’m a bit partial to a few French philosophers. They usually have the answers.
Thank you very much for the welcome. I am enjoying the site and seem to have found a well balanced conservative place to keep current. I would welcome any explanations or assistance as to the site. You’re correct that I’m a “newbie.”
