Feud over Miami homeless leads to creation of “poop map”
Miami Herald ^ | 14 May 2015 | David Smiley

Tasked with marketing Miami to tourists and investors, the tax-funded Downtown Development Authority has plenty of maps highlighting restaurants, tourist attractions and real estate development.

On Thursday, they unveiled their latest: a detailed map showing where people popped a squat on downtown streets.

The scatological atlas, smiling poop emojis and all, was created amid a swirling dispute between downtown boosters and the Miami-Dade Homeless Trust over how to get homeless men and women off the street, and how to deal with corresponding sanitation issues. The two public agencies have been feuding for about a year now, dating back to the creation of a temporary shelter program at Camillus House, and more recently with the DDA’s promotion of souped-up porta-potties.

Long-time Homeless Trust Chairman Ron Book balks at both as ill-conceived initiatives already studied and rejected by the Trust, which focuses primarily on providing housing for the homeless. In response, he has been criticized as a “dictator” blind to downtown issues, who is flushing millions down the drain.

As part of an effort to shame Book and urge the Trust to reconsider, the DDA spent eight hours Friday documenting urine and feces, and then released its map, where the agency says feces was spotted during a sanitation worker’s eight-hour Friday shift.

Now, there’s little hope of wiping the slate clean.

“As the chief advocate for downtown Miami's growing base of residents, businesses and visitors from around the world, the Miami DDA has been making the case that homelessness is having a disproportionate impact on our urban core for years, and yet The Homeless Trust has resorted to passing the buck and ignoring the problem,” executive director Alyce Robertson said Thursday in a statement.

I’ve got an idea. How about if you see some feral animal crapping on the sidewalk, you walk up, bust them upside the head, then rub their faces in their own mess? You know, kind of like you’d do when trying to housebreak a dog? Maybe then these disgusting filth would learn some measure of civilization. And if they don’t, they’ll soon end up dead.

This looks like a computer game designed by the Japanese.
Wonder if the website has the requisite sound effects?

There are darned few people out there who have no place to go because they ran into bad circumstances and got thrown out or lost their home. The majority are drug and alcohol users who spend ever minute and every dime on drugs or alcohol. That’s why they’re homeless. The rest have severe mental problems. (One is probably a subset of the other.)

In the early nineties the Sarasota paper paid a private investigator and they discovered that in Sarasota, at least, there were people living on the street who had retirement incomes, cars and could afford whatever amenities they wanted. One they interviewed was a retired colonel who said, “I just don’t want to own a home and stay in the same place every night.” According to the paper they watched their begging and figured many of them earned the equivalent of $30,000 because their income was untaxed.

If I recall correctly there have been court cases on homelessness. If I remember right courts have ruled these people have a right to be on the streets if they aren’t breaking any other laws.

Here’s what I wonder considering that. Do you really then have an implied right to p### and s$%’ in the streets and sidewalks??? Do you have the right to foul the environment for everyone else because you have made poor life choices to be on the streets???

Can I ask how it is that we have homeless in the era of Obama??? Obama is liberal, democrats are liberal, and liberals have told us that there are homeless due to heartless policies of Republican presidents. Considering that, why hasn’t homelessness gone away by now, the 7th year of the ERS of obama???

When was the last time you heard from the "media," a homeless update? Maybe six and a half years?
