The final episode of AMCs Mad Men this Sunday heralds the end of a TV era. The shows seven seasons covered the turbulent decade from 1960 until 1970, dramatizing changing styles and social mores in the lives of Mad Men and women, or professionals in the Madison Avenue advertising industry.
For those who arent regular watchers: A lot of the shows male characters spent their time chasing young women around the office and a lot of the female characters spent their time trying to land or keep a husband.
Critics have consistently lauded the series, not just for its entertainment value but also for exposing the dark underbelly of a prosperous, conservative era.

They’d have never put up with the “sexism” of the era. Who are they trying to kid?
Why would NY women want to go back to a “conservative era” no matter how prosperous it was?
most NY women Ive met are obama worshipers...wouldnt touch one with a ten foot pole!
I never cared much for it. The series struck me as aimed at Baby Boomers to confirm everything they disliked about their parents was true.
is it simply that ‘Men were Men and Women were Women?
why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free..
Perhaps hooking up has just gotten stale...
Some of the clothes were sharp.
“...but also for exposing the dark underbelly of a prosperous, conservative era.”

Presstitutes can NEVER miss a chance to trash conservatives. Consciously or subconsciously - its what they do.
When girls were girls and men were men!
I know I love the way Glen Miller played!
drew: why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free..
Hotlanta Mike: Perhaps hooking up has just gotten stale...
No one likes stale milk.
I think most would go back to that era for the class, romance and family life.
But EVERYTHING else was worse for women. You had almost no choice of careers, nobody would take you seriously and creeps could get away with harassment far easier.
And NO, I don’t think ALL women are meant to be homemakers. Some have it in their blood but others want something far different. Neither should be stigmatized and they should make their own choice
The mens or womens?
Both.
Yes, here’s a secret: it doesn’t matter what women say, they secretly long for strong, capable men who are sure of themselves, not oversensitive liberal whiners.
ah go eat a welfare steak!
They article neglected to mention that in the 1960s out of wedlock babies were not the norm and women got married if they found out they were pregnant ASAP.
I AM a woman from the Mad Men era.
I loved it.
