The Navy needs new servers for its upgraded Aegis Combat System after the current IBM line was sold to Chinese computer maker Lenovo.
The $2.1 billion sale closed in October and made Lenovo the number three server maker in the world.
IBM shedding its server business creates a security concern for the U.S. Navy, which included the companys x86 BladeCenter HT server in its Aegis Technical Insertion (TI) 12. The TI-12 hardware upgrades, along with Advanced Capability Build (ACB) 12 software upgrades, compose the Aegis Baseline 9 combat system upgrade that combines a ballistic missile defense capability with anti-air warfare (AAW) improvements for the Navys guided missile cruiser and destroyer fleets.

I guess it didn't rise to any particular level of concern to stop the sale, now did it...

Hitlary has a slightly used one she could donate.
Hmmm
did the government even put it on hold to study the issue?
America needs to protect American jobs.
Stop selling off America businesses to the Chicoms.
Bring back American businesses, right here. And protect our own markets here.
America needs to be for America once again.
Aw what the hell... buy our national defense servers from China. The price is right. What could go wrong?
(So much for COTS... nice idea until something like *this* happens)
I don’t always agree with you, but in this case, you have the moral upper hand. But I know you won’t take unfair advantage. :-)
We were screwed before this. The military has been using chips manufactured in China in aircraft, communications, and weapons systems for years. They have been shown to have a backdoor programmed in by the Chinese.
Thank you, I will try to not take advantage of this frustrating situation, but it becomes exceedingly frustrating when even you good guys, are all for sending American jobs to the Chinese Communists.
OUR SIDE is selling out America.
We ran a massive 342 billion dollar bilateral trade deficit just last year, which was (yet another) new all-time bad record.
This year, it has gotten even worse.
Every single month. I’m just saying, everyone is all for sending every job to China.
Everyone. Wake the heck up people.
I say, bring them back. Stop building up China.
Build up America once again.
Sorry. Maybe that is “takeing unfair advantage”.
But we have to do something.
America needs to grow again.
So when does Ø start selling F-35s to Iran? Hey, wait... that just might have consequences completely unintended by the Purple-Lipped Mulatto-In-Chief. Ink the Deal... McCain can broker it like he did in Syria.
Back as a kid, Saturday afternoon TV (B&W), the only problem on a ship (Pirate, especially) was having a woman aboard.
Things have changed.
A few years ago NASA awarded the ACES contract (who will supply all of NASA’s desktop and laptop computers) to IBM.... who promptly started delivering Lenovo computers all over NASA.
No risk there, huh?
America needs to be better managed again!
IBM has gone from total preeminence to a lost, wandering train wreck. Selling to the Chinese ain't great, but I suspect the debt to asset ration was such you couldn't get and American company to touch it with a ten foot pole.
He doesn’t need to sell them to Iran...
...Iran need only buy the copies from China.
.
Gee, I wonder how many American jobs will be lost if the Trans-Pacific Partnership passes?
Oh that’s right. We don’t know because Obama is trying to pass the TPP in secrecy. Wonder what the administration doesn’t want us to know.
I don't share your optimism that it may not pass...
Didn’t there used to be a rule where American companies couldn’t sell or give critical military data to our enemies???
