Get out of California ASAP.
According to the California Department of Motor Vehicles’ “Vehicle Salesperson License Handbook,” an applicant is to submit their application “at your local Department of Motor Vehicles field office.” Ok... So what are the field office hours? Per http://apps.dmv.ca.gov/fo/fotoc.htm:
“Services provided by DMV offices include Vehicle Registration, Driver License and Identification (ID) Card Processing. You may use the regional maps to locate a field office by region. DMV offices are open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday (except holidays) between 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.”
What about Saturday? Again, per that web page:
“The following DMV offices have extended Saturday office hours by appointment exclusively for driver license transactions.” They then provide a link to those offices.
So, according to California’s DMV web site, only some offices are open on Saturday and those that are, are only open for driver license transactions.
You have nothing to complain about. You went on the wrong day. California does not provide vehicle salesperson licensing on Saturdays.
I guess you are a supposed expert contrarian given your nome de juer.
This is a new process that began at the end of January and they have restricted the regular DMV offices to “immigrants” on Saturdays but, the DMV is available to them on every day they are open.
If you are renewing your license, which I did in February, they are directing you to Super Centers, which are faster and practically overstaffed but, are only for Americans & Legal Residents.
I was freakin surprised how fast it went.
However, my local DMV is 5 minutes from my house.
The nearest super center is 40 minutes away. So, while it was fast, I had to drive 40 minutes out of town and then back, in rush hour, which I didn’t appreciate.
I shouldn’t be required to drive out my way and “immigrants” don’t have to.
within (1) hour of my house there are 26 DMV and one supercenter.
Crazy.
The new directions for faster service at super centers only began in January, the restriction of DMV local centers only for “immigrants” new licensing began in February, I think, however the dealership was shocked to learn this and it may have begun just in the last month.
The latter is what we have now.
A background check and Auto Sales license from the California State DMV to sell cars?
Is this a nation wide universal thing? The only thing that makes me understand it is that its California.
Have no idea.
I didn’t know about it until today.
It’s fine.
If it was easy, every one could do it.
