I worked at a unionized grocery store once. You could have fired about 1/3 of the employees and wouldn’t notice a difference, except you couldn’t fire anyone for being incompetent. If you suspended them, most of the time they ended up getting paid their regular amout once the union was involved.

They are producing these junk food treats with about 10% of the former number of workers.

Plant improvements account for some of the change, but changing the distribution model (Bread trucks) to a more modern model accounts for more of the change. Shows how "make work" rules can destroy efficiency and later a company.

I never cared for their chocolate products or Twinkies.
