The link that I posted here was from the page of the survey with this question and preposterous set of answers. I see, however, that when you click on the link it takes you to the first page of the survey. I suppose that if you click all the way through to the page near the end where they ask you “a few questions about yourself,” you’ll get to this insane page. Sorry I couldn’t figure out how to appropriate just the page I was quoting from.

But male and female are sexes, not genders. Masculine and feminine are genders. So the only correct responses are Other or Prefer not to answer.

I'm curious to know why they included 'male'? I've yet to meet a NYT reader who would qualify.
I suppose it's some kind of 'pretend' thing, for all the genetically female softball players, female golfers and other such emotional cripples...
