Time Magazine Meet the Worlds New Oldest Living Person Olivia B. Waxman April 6, 2015
Here's what 115-year-old Jeralean Talley of Michigan had to say about the news
Following the death of 117-year-old Japanese woman Misao Okawa last Wednesday, Gertrude Weaver of Camden, Ark., became the worlds new oldest living person at 116 years old. But she passed away Monday morning at the Silver Oaks Health and Rehabilitation Center after complications due to pneumonia, the Associated Press confirmed.
The record for the shortest reign is four days, and that was Emma Tillman in 2007 at 114 years old, said Robert Young, director of the supercentenarians division of the Los Angeles-based Gerontology Research Group. The average title holder keeps the title maybe for about a year. On top of that, weve never had two people over 116 years old die in one week before. So now you can close the book on 1898.
That makes Jeralean Talley of Inkster, Mich., the new oldest living person at 115 years old. There could still be people who are older than Talley, but their claims have not been verified by the organization, which usually requires documentation such as original proof of birth, name change and recent identification.
I feel good, Talley told TIME in a Monday evening phone call, aided by her daughter, Thelma Holloway, 77. I dont feel sick. Im still trying to do the right thing is all.

Jeralean Talley is now one of just 3 verifed living people who were born in the 1800s. After tomorrow Jerelean will be the 12th oldest person ever (currenty tied at 115 year, 319 days). Misao is 5th and Gertude is 7th of the oldest ever verifed people. Jerelean is about seven years from being the oldest ever.
The Gerontology Research Group maintains this information and they appear to have recently revamped their website http://www.grg.org/ and look like they will be keeping on top of adding new verified cases. They are now showing only 52 validated living supercentenarians. 50 women and 2 men.
50 women and 2 men
wonder why more guys aren’t living over 100...
Millions over age 112 have Social Security numbers, and its not because were living longer
I’ll be here ‘til Thursday. Tell your friends, and try the roast beef. Thank you. Thank you very much!
Wow, they’re dropping like flies, and unexpectedly too, lol.
“wonder why more guys arent living over 100...”
You know why men usually pass away before the women? Because they want to.
Ha ha.
My grandmother is on the Wiki supercentarian list. She’s 111.
As I’ve pointed out before, the position of oldest living person seems to be extremely dangerous. I wouldn’t want it, myself.
Our small town offers a special cane to the oldest person living there. My 97-y-o Dad declined, saying, “No point in jinxing my record”.
