“Its an urban legend.”
Not. I have seen with my own eyes, better food in the cart of someone paying with food stamps than in mine, including hamburger meat for the dog as stamps don’t cover dog food. I have seen people buy soda only to pour it out and return the aluminum cans for cash. I have seen food stamps exchanged for cash. Some are so bold as to discuss their abuse (entitlement) with each other in the checkout line. To many it has become a way of life. I realize there are people who, by no circumstance of their own doing, need some help. I am all for helping the needy: a hand up, rather than a hand out. The abuse is rampant.
You’re against abortion and against feeding the poor. One would stop the other, the other guarantees continued mouths to feed. Mandatory sterilization would end it totally.
i used to think it was urban legend..
until i saw it with my own 2 eyes..
welfare mama, buying candy and pop for her little child at the gas station with an ebt card..
goes outside and gets into her brand new cadillac and drives off...
you get food stamps, rent paid, utilities paid, phone paid and they even give you “folding money”...
My exact thoughts; this is a “feel good” law but doesn’t really deal with the root problem. I would rather they focus on abuse, fraud, and policies that discourage welfare use. One area I would support more government employees is social workers whose job would be to seek out welfare fraud.
IIRC, the biggest retailer of EBT is Wal-Mart, as might one expect of the largest retailer. SO, EBT is effectively corporate welfare. SO, the use (abuse) of EBT does indeed have a well-heeled lobby.
Those items are not, and have never been, permitted purchases with food stamps.
The confusion comes from the fact that there are two separate programs. First, there is SNAP/WIC, colloquially known as food stamps (because, historically, food stamps were actual stamps/paper documents). There are significant restrictions as to what can and cannot be purchased using SNAP/WIC - no tobacco, liquor or other food items (and even restrictions as to what food items may be purchased - it varies state-by-state, but typically, prepared foods are not permitted).
Second, there is cash welfare. Historically, people who received a cash welfare benefit would receive a check each month, which they could either deposit or cash. Once they deposited/cashed the check, they could obviously do what they wanted with the money (they had cash).
The confusion comes from the fact that these two programs are now loaded onto the same card. So, while you may see someone with an EBT card using it at a liquor store (and while that person should not be doing so), that person (a) is not using food stamps at the liquor store, and (b) is not really doing anything they couldn't have done in the past. Also, prohibiting the use of EBT cards at liquor stores/etc is not really effective - anyone with cash benefits can use them in any ATM to get cash, and can obviosuly then use that cash at a liquor store or anywhere else.
Good explanation.
Not only that but they spend ZER0 time supporting the govt unlike taxpaying wage slaves. Its not just the money.
I know a guy who lives with a recently retired public school teacher in Boston, she makes six figures between her pension and rental income. He collects food stamps and uses them for lobster tail and steaks for treats each month. He also has had heart stents AND leukemia treatments in the past 2 years... without paying a penny.
What is an urban legend?
That many people on EBT use the money for other things than food?
Yes we have noticed that Kroger has its shelves pretty much set up for the EBT crowd.
I have five children and there is no way my budget can afford seafood. We do get steak once or twice a month, I let them pick the cuts and we grill it.
If they are getting EBT and living that way, what are they using the rest of their money on?
EBT can have 2 different sections on the card. One is for food stamps the other is for cash benefits.....all on the same card.
It is you who are mixed up.
My sister works in Witchita at a Wal-mart deli and she says the EBT abusers come in regularly and buy the hi value products and then go to customer service and return them for cash to scam the system.
Should be repeated over and over again, until every liberal politician understands it!
Paid for Kibble
It’s amazing how some people never look things up. Look it up.
In the same vein, we should have a say in how our elected officials spend their money, shouldn’t we? After all, our tax dollars pay their wages.
Reminds me of the classic when Archie Bunker asks Lionel Jefferson where they got the money to start their dry cleaning biz. “We saved our welfare checks” he said.
Actually George Jefferson, according to Norman Lear, was a Republican.
