Well, yeah, but that Was a Kerry voter! LOL
I think Ted Cruz was responding to liberal Rock Music artist that is supposed to be passed off as so called music let alone as Rock Music.
There hasn’t been much new “rock” music on the radio since 9-11. It surely exists but not on the radio dial.
In Houston (Ted Cruz’s hometown) there is no new rock station. The “edgy edgy grungy grunge” station is playing 20 year old tracks. There is only one classic rock station (the other went hippity hop last year).
I don’t even know what sort of “country” Ted Cruz is listening to. Is it dance-pop-bro-country? Or is it alt-country/singer songwriter? Nashvegas or Cosmic Cowboys?
Heavy man, now that’s real heavy dude.... Far our man.
Nope. I don’t like country... love classic rock. Cruz is my guy. Really don’t care what he listens to.
And then there’s that other ironic crowd-pleaser Screw You, We’re From Texas, directed not at people from other states in general, but at the corporate music industry in particular.
“It’s about how we write our own songs down here, that’s just what we do. I don’t think it would work somewhere else. I don’t think you could say ‘Screw you, we’re from Delaware.’ “

I took Ted’s comments to mean only that country music artists produced more very patriotic, kick their a** songs after 9/11 than rock artists produced. Probably correct from what I recall, but I don’t think the remark will carry forward much in the campaign.
I will say however there are quite a few with conservative or libertarian leanings in classic rock and even metal. Dave Mustaine of Megadeth for one.
I think those years have provided you with false memories.
This was what Reagan said at a campaign stop, perhaps that is what you are remembering.
While campaigning in New Jersey in 1984, Ronald Reagan said in his speech: "America's future rests in a thousand dreams inside your hearts. It rests in the message of hope in songs so many young Americans admire: New Jersey's own Bruce Springsteen. And helping you make those dreams come true is what this job of mine is all about." Source
Sure there is. It may be older music, but I get to listen to lots of older music.
I also get to listen to later music. I can find whatever I want. The market is a great thing.
The last thing I would do is take music advice from a politician, or anyone else, for that matter.
This is just a hit piece on Cruz by someone that can't find a real reason to hit Cruz.

He said he didn’t like “how rock responded”. Going forward, who on this site champions the likes of Radiohead (Hail To The Thief), Green Day (American Idiot), Neil Young, et al in the Bush era?
Doesn’t mean he blacklisted the old albums in his collection.
Some people don’t just listen to the albums that got them through high school and college. Some continue to listen to new music.
He likes both kinds, Country AND Western.
Dave Mustaine is serious heavy metal but will known for conservatism. Strongly opposed to gay marriage which has led to some big public blowups with gay singers. He refuses to tour with anti Christian bands. He was home schooled and has no love for public schools or teacher’s unions. Recently moved to Tennessee from California to escape insane taxation. Absolutely hates the UN and even named an album “United Abominations”. He credits God with saving his life, his marriage and his family. Absolutely despises Obama.
Dave in the white shirt.

It’s not an isolated attack, either. I didn’t bother to post the articles from the Left trying to sour the low information voters on a Cruz candidacy. A bigot at Ebony made an insulting comment about this on CNN.
I don’t think that ANY background influences can be a negative for candidates going forward. Red diaper doper parents, Marxist professors, coking and chooming, 20 years of Jeremiah Wright, baptized in Chicago politics by Bill Ayers. NOTHING in a candidate’s past or personal life should hold any weight in the elections now.
Barack Obama wasn’t vetted.
Which proves they never listened to the song.
Let's Roll was by Canadian country rocker Neil Young.
Wow.. they are really reaching now..
And this early too?
And yep, there are negatives out there, just not for Cruz. I won't vote for someone that is for abortion, for bigger government, for socialized medicine, or against guns.
That, I will vette for.
Comparing BO to Cruz is just silly.
