Marriage is a sacrament, created by the Catholic Church. Be for that, like cattle, men owned women. These are the facts. All you liberals can deal with it as you will.

You can’t make any connection between the debt and hedonism? People now define the pursuit of happiness with more and more pleasure. But too much pleasure always leads to too much paid. That’s one reason why that good pagan Aristotle, and indeed most moralists, speak of moderation in all things. Our elites are careful with their assets and even with their own lives, but they encourage the rest of us to immoderation, and then punish us who save and lead careful lives.

Let’s fix the big things first.

But why recognize a partnership based on nothing more binding than sexual infatuation?

Let’s not get distracted. We can deal with marriage after we deal with $18 Trillion in debt. Once we put the feral gummint back in it’s cage I think the marriage thing will sort out fine, along with flag burning and all the other distractions.

So true - we get so diverted with much that hasn't a whit of relevance as far as getting ourselves out of the swirling waters as we head down the drain. If we get our constitution back and rein in our government and its excesses, the rest will take care of itself. Satan grins big time as we get diverted with self-righteous pablum and ignore that which maintains the downward slide.

I think that Adam Smith says there is a real link between the private economy and the public economy, and our Founding Father, between private and public morality.

An open sewer with a balanced checkbook is still an open sewer. An immoral and irreligious people cannot hope to hold a government accountable.

“Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.”- John Adams

IMHO marriage is a religious concept, and government should have nothing whatsoever to do with it.

Certainly marriage has been defined as being between one man and one woman from the beginning of time. It is clearly stated in the Bible, but also every other religion - Muslim, Hindu, etc. Never in the history of the human race has same sex marriage been condoned until the present age.

The few times where it has been tried, the society fell under disastrous circumstances (Roman Empire for one)

...assumption that sex is primarily for the purpose of hedonistic pleasure,...

BIG elephant in the room, that one. Lambeth Conference, 1930, artificial contraception worms into the Protestant Church. Sundering the sexual act from its procreative function just might have had some unintended consequences.

Marriage is ordained from GOD for a man and a woman. The main reason is so man would not be alone thus GOD created woman for man and woman was made from man. The two were to be as one but both were made different physically and mentally for their rolls in life. That was GOD’s initial plan for man & woman. Children are certainly a part of marriage if GOD so blesses the couple. But it certainly doesn’t make the marriage nor is it the sole reason for a marriage to take place.
