Dear America: Stop Pretending To Be Offended By Everything
The Federalist ^ | 04/02/2015 | David Harsanyi

Dear America, Lena Dunham and Trevor Noah might not be funny, but that's no reason to form a posse.

Lena Dunham received plenty of criticism for her insufferable New Yorker piece titled “Dog Or Jewish Boyfriend? A Quiz.” In it, the creator of “Girls” weighs the pros and cons of getting a pet or keeping her Jewish boyfriend: “He doesn’t tip,” and “he never brings his wallet anywhere,” and so on. The jokes may tell us something about her comedic abilities, her audience and the New Yorker, but, despite much handwringing, it tells us nothing about anti-Semitism.

The ADL’s National Director Abraham Foxman, the unelected voice of American Jewish conscience, allows that humor “is a matter of taste, and people can disagree if it is funny or not.” But Dunham’s piece, he argues, is “particularly troubling because it evokes memories of the ‘No Jews or Dogs Allowed’ signs from our own early history in this country, and also because, in a much more sinister way, many in the Muslim world today hatefully refer to Jews as ‘dogs.'”

“Anti-Semitism” is rooting for Hamas. Making fun of your nebbish boyfriend is lame, but it should not make any rational person think of Iran’s Supreme Leader. I’ve heard plenty of malicious and offensive anti-Semitic jokes in my life, but it would be tough to conjure up the indignation to believe Dunham was flirting with anything resembling bigotry. Making fun of innocuous stereotypes – and Dunham is part Jewish and lives in a world teeming with Jews – in the pages of a friendly publication evokes memories of subpar Catskill comedians, not long-dead nativists.

In fact, why should Dunham, or anyone else, have to worry about inadvertently evoking memories of ancient wrongdoings that disturb the sensibilities of the professionally aggrieved? She’s a 28-year-old actress.

I’m offended that all of America is being portrayed as being offended.

I thought from the headline it might be about perpetually offended blacks.

I’m tired of people using the word “offended” when they mean “disagree”

Human life, or all life for that matter, requires discrimination every second. Diversity not so much.

Two Jewish guys were walking down the street and saw a church with a sign that said “come inside and convert for $20”

One said to the other “Hey, that seems like a good deal. Why don’t we both go in and pretend we convert. That’ll be $40!”

So, the one goes inside and meets with the pastor who whoever for 20 minutes and comes out.

“Did you do it? Did they really give you the $20?” The friend said.

“Is that all you people think about!” he replied.

If Lena Dunham weren’t rich, she would gladly accept any man that would give her the time of day.
But since she’s loaded, companionship will never be a problem for her. Let her not forget that.

Of course a dog will live you no matter how nasty you are.

I cannot help but notice, that being perpetually offended was a national sport for the progressives, until a few of their own were criticized for saying things anti jewish.
Things that of course, if someone on the right said would create an immediate firestorm, loss of job, some sort of investigation, and the requisite condemnation from Obama.

So, I think we can be offended a little longer, long enough to see a couple on the left suffer the same fate. No free pass for those two. Imagine if Rush would have said it.

I don't have an opinion on whether Ms Dunham is better off with a dog or a jewish boyfriend (though I'm certain he's better off without her).

But it reminds me of a test. Want to know who loves you more, your dog or your wife? Try this simple test. Lock them both in the trunk of a car for an hour and when you let them out, which one is happy to see you?

Makes me think of “The Princess and the Pea”.

An annoyance so subtle that only a hypersensitive ass can detect it. Like that recently ginned up complaint, “micro aggression”.

This reads as though it was designed to get the right to preserve the left’s society of perpetual grievance without retaliating.

Sorry, but it is time to take up rhetorical arms against those who would shout down any conservative thought.

“He doesn’t tip,” and “he never brings his wallet anywhere,” and so on.

While the potential Irish boyfriend spends like a sailor, constantly drinks too much and overtips. But the Irish guy hears the joke and just grins...

If you are in power and seriously screw with Blacks or Jews, given the history they have suffered, I am against you.

In fact, I am against all hate and intolerance which means the Left is dead meat. They are selective in their hate and intolerance but embrace it nonetheless. They promote hate of whites, Christians, men, heterosexuals/families... Now they have added Jews. They are like Nazi pigs to me.

Good point. I'm going to use that in future rants on the newspaper comments section.
