Washington Post columnist Richard Cohen has gotten people buzzing again about another provocative column of his. This time, Cohen is arguing that Ferguson has become the liberal Benghazi.
In his new column, he argues that just like how conservatives trumped up Benghazi as evidence of how White House incompetence or timidity led to the death of four Americans, liberals trumped up Ferguson as evidence of a racist police murder.
Cohen didnt dismiss the findings of the DOJ report on racist police practices, but did scold people who jumped to conclusions in the killing of Michael Brown. He said, If Brown was not criminally shot because he was black, then possibly the cop was accused because he was white. Who was the stereotyped individual here?
Cohen makes it clear he doesnt think racism isnt a problem, but distorting the facts can impede progress.
Jon Stewart made a similar observation last week, only with the script flipped a bit. For one, he said theres actually more to claims of racism in Ferguson than to claims of a Benghazi cover-up.
Buy Popcorn futures.
Benghazi was the liberal Benghazi.
More like America’s Next Detroit.
Seem the Liberal Elites like their privilege and want to keep it.
It's been a cold late spring this year. I wonder how safe the cities will be when the weather improves.
Oh, my, how politically incorrect! Liberals usually want their "dialogue on race" a little more controlled than that. Kudos to Cohen for a moment of clarity.
There’s never an end to these people and the way they look at things like that in that manner, is there? I listened to (with interest) Frank Serpico’s take on Ferguson and I think he made some valid comments, just to try to hear a variety of reasonable points of view about this incident. This fellow on the other hand, I am not surprised but still taken aback at that sort of thing though.
Benghazi... Ferguson.
BOTH abject failures by this pathetic mess of an administration.
Liberals lied about Benghazi and liberals lied about Ferguson. This idiot’s logic is illogical.
I really do wish George Orwell could see this.
And Huxley as well.
The Washington Post has become the liberal Benghazi.
Yo, Richie, as if Benghazi wasn’t a liberal Benghazi?
After reading an interview of Serpico a few years ago, I wouldn’t count his testimony much. He was a huge fan of of Occupy Wall Street morons. I got the distinct feeling he’d like to see a socialist U.S.A.
Sure.
George Zimmerman/Trayvon Martin should have been NBC’s Benghazi.
