Cops get high power weapons and ammo, body armor, and tactical training. Any citizen pursuing any one of those things gets a file at the FBI.
Cops can have autofire weapons, but if a non-police citizen wants one, theyare highly rrestricted, costly, and have to register and be examed mentally.
Through my ex, I know those involved in investigations misuse the surveillance tools at their disposal for person use, such as her using tools only available to judges to track my movements.

Have you ever read up on the “Miller” Supreme Court case?
It is convoluted but very interesting.
Miller was convicted of having a short barrel shotgun.
The supremes stated in their decision that no evidence was
presented to demonstrate that such a weapon had any military use.
The case is a lot more complicated than that
but that short summary will get you started.

I was 3 in ‘68. My memories of Johnson are the initial years of implementing his welfare stuff. Most of my knowledge of the Johnson administration is from the CSPAN radio program playing the Johnson tapes.
Initially, CSPAN didn’t edit the conversations Johnson had until the racial slurs and cussing were unbearable. Aldo, most of what Nixon got blamed about Vietnam was actually Johnson.
Lady Bird Johnson was all about highway beautification projects and such.
Was that 1968?
