I vote for hanging. Traditional, less dignified than a firing squad. And the rope can be reused.

I agree with firing squad as it has an air of respect and dignity. It is hardly cruel or unusual.

Miscarriages of justice? Most on here are perfectly willing to accept the death of innocents so they can drive cars (fatalities galore, thousands of innocents). Why not so we can have the death penalty for egregious offenses?

No one WANTS the death of innocents, only that we are willing to accept them for a deemed “good”.

I can go with that. Or just rip off the Romans and have them wrestle bears, lions and stuff.

Whether the State can loose and bind
In Heaven as well as on Earth:
If it be wiser to kill mankind
Before or after the birth—
These are matters of high concern
Where State-kept schoolmen are;
But Holy State (we have lived to learn)
Endeth in Holy War.

Very bad idea.

A slippery slope that will take us who knows where.

I have no objection to the death penalty, but the purpose is for society to have the wrong doer pay with their life, not be a source of body parts.

Like many things, something that starts out one way soon evolves into something entirely different.

You are absolutely right. I withdraw the suggestion.
Larry Niven wrote of that. Demand for organs to the point that even speeding tickets had a death penalty.
Still, it has a nice poetic ring to it...
