Surprise, surprise: statistics show Portland is the most religiously-unaffiliated metro area in the United States.
About 42 percent of residents in the City of Roses and surrounding suburbs self-identify as religiously unaffiliated, according to a survey released this week by the Public Religion Research Institute. That's nearly 10 percentage points higher than Portland's West Coast peers and runner-ups Seattle and San Francisco, which both came in at 33 percent.

A couple from our church left for Portland to start a church. It is considered a very spiritually dark city.

No the article specifically says they are not “godless”. They are mostly not affiliated with a specific religious sect.

No need to do that ... there are plenty of dedicated CHRISTIANS in Portland. I know, as I was there for many years. There are good churches and dedicated Christians. They are quite able to go among their own neighbors!
Add “at taxpayer expense.”
