(CNSNews.com) – In a surprise admission, Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairman Tom Wheeler acknowledged that an Internet tax – which he had previously said would not be imposed – could be imposed in the future.

Wheeler’s remarks came during a Tuesday appearance before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, where he was asked to shed light on the process by which the FCC passed rules last month regulating the Internet.

Wheeler’s admission came after Rep. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) asked him to go on the record with his previous assurances that there would be no new taxes.

“Can you guarantee to the American taxpayer, people who use broadband service, that if this goes into effect, that they will not see taxes show up as contributions to the Universal Service Fund (USF)?" DeSantis asked.

The only reasons the FCC is regulating the Internet are to tax it to death and for the government to control content

Shocked. Simply shocked.

I never would have guessed that government control of the internet would result in the government also taxing the use of internet.

Well, at least we don’t have to worry about the government trying to tax the distance one travels in his own car.

[ I never would have guessed that government control of the internet would result in the government also taxing the use of internet. ]

They are sneaky they will tax the ISPs so then when the customer complains about high internet prices the government will have yet another excuse to “fix” a problem by taking MORE control....

[ Well, at least we don’t have to worry about the government trying to tax the distance one travels in his own car. ]

There is talk about putting a box in cars to tax per mile driven since new fuel economy cars are not “generating enough revenue” for the fat pig polticians...

So, it begins. It will start out very small in the beginning of course. What’s a few pennies from us taxpayers anyway? Right?
It will, I gaurantee, turn into larger and then more and more taxes in order to support the welfare state. Of this, I am sure.

Every car already has such a record of miles driven...it's called an "odometer".

No, the real reason for this box is so that the gov't can have an excuse to put a two-way tracking device on your vehicle, so they can tell everywhere you have gone......

Reddit has pretty much every group represented, but the DU types are loud, organized into voting parties and ready to argue to their last breath. It becomes oppressive sometimes.

Surprise, surprise, surprise!

They are sneaky they will tax the ISPs

Remember in the first few months of the Gore tax on phone lines and the phone companies actually had the courage to list it as a separate line item. Then that got quashed pretty quickly, but I don't remember the legal justification as to why it was rolled into the bill rather than kept as separate line item (the real reason was that people got angry about it so it had to be hidden).

LOL! Some days it seems like it!

But it is a gigantic messageboard site divided into multiple categories from anything like astronomy, history, world news, cooking, movies, and a bunch of other stuff.

It’s also where net neutrality pushers got its army of drones to lobby the FCC to pass this mess. Their hivemind army inundated the FCC in order to force the issue to the forefront.

Obama even wrote a thank-you letter to the site for making it happen.

There are a few of us conservatives there, but we have to fight like heck to be heard.
