OK...could only read through half of this “essay.”

The dear Fulbright scholar throws around too many names as to create distraction and confusion to her thesis.

If her conclusion...which somehow is not stated in her own thoughts and words...was that observable climate science conclusions are justified, by the historical scientific methods described, she failed.

“Fascinating - the title is completely unsupported by the text.”

Typical Salon headline-writer’s ploy.

Article is an interesting historical review of the development of the scientific method. Similar to the theme of Eco’s “The Name of the Rose.”

Meanwhile, Much of California is still a desert and eliminating a coal fired power plant in Ohio is not going to produce more rain in LA

I would bet this libtard has no idea, none whatsoever!

Show 'em this picture and they reaction like those on-the-street interviewees who don't know who we won our Independence from, but know all of Brad Pitts wives names.

Looks like the author titled this piece in such a way to get max hits. All Fox News haters will click on the link thinking they will be reading a hit piece on Fox. Within two sentences they will realize the piece is way over their heads and won’t read any further. Hits are everything. Very clever Salon!

The Royal Society wouldn’t have allowed the likes of Michael Mann & his hockey stick graph or Al Gore to soil the ranks of the group with their politically inspired alchemy. They would laugh Obama & his climate alarmist cult right out the door.

It would appear Laura J. Snyder has researched the history of the scientific methods and their evolution. She seems delighted to have ‘discovered’ what we have known for decades: Science, empirical science, requires reproducible results.

Computer models are not science. Science does not support the religion of AGW.

Remember how America’s coastal cities were supposed to be swallowed up by the oceans and seas by 2010?

I am till waiting for the area where I live to become beachfront property as promised by the Gorites and other climate scammers.

Don’t they know it is 2015 and they have fallen behind schedule?

What tied together all these different areas of inquiry was the importance placed upon experimentation.

Didn't the country just experiment with record cold and record breaking snow fall for the last 4 months?

I didn’t find a single thing in this interesting summary of an aspect of the history of science that I as a “teapartier” need to “grapple with”.

I did, it was a rather forceful message against taking hallucinogenic drugs.

So it’s the Baconite Tea Partiers versus the self-deluded Cartesian libtards and their climate alarmism. That’s the lesson I take from the piece. How ‘bout them apples, Ms. Snyder?

“Didn’t the country just experiment with record cold and record breaking snow fall for the last 4 months?”

Yes indeed, along with some record breaking HIGH temperatures in some areas, all of which proves beyond a doubt that...weather changes. As some of my shipmates used to say about the US Navy, the only thing that is constant about it is the rate of change and even that has been known to vary.

Snyder’s provocative, misleading title uses politics to motivate many into reading a long, useful article about the origins of modern science. Clever marketing.

It is interesting that she is so intimidated by political correctness, that she inverts the situation. The Right is not a monolith, but generally evinces skepticism about AGW orthodoxy, and demands openness and independent verification before an enormous price is paid for dubious solutions. The Left blindly accepts AGW theory, which from what we can tell, seems to be founded on speculation and data manipulation, by people who sedulously hide their data, methodology, and algorisms from analysis, independent confirmation, or correction. Based on her history lesson, the “inconvenient truth” about AGW proponents is their deviation from the scientific tradition.

All right. Who rattled the monkey cage at Salon? You know that upsets them and then they start howling and throwing their crap around.
If you’re going to rattle the monkey cage, at least throw them a banana. That calms them down for a few days as they try to figure out how to peel it.

Interesting read, but the title doesn’t match the content at all. What I got from it was there is a natural law ordained by God. She attempted to throw in tossing out ancient beliefs, perhaps as regards morality and particularly sexual morality.

The simplest answer to that is that in written history the human condition hasn’t changed. People both ancient and modern still have the same hierarchy of needs and wants. Nothings changed for humans, but the tech.

Francis Bacon stated that he had three goals: to uncover truth, to serve his country, and to serve his church.

Excellent and thanks for posting.

Scientism is just another false religion masquerading as truth.
