New Orleans Archbishop: Xavier University Made Bad Decision On 2015 Graduation Speakers 03/04/2015 SunTimes Network
Xavier University plans to award honorary degrees to some of the four speakers who are scheduled for its graduation ceremonies this spring and Roman Catholic Archbishop Gregory Aymond of New Orleans is not happy about it.
It was not stated which speaker upset the Archbishop, but the four scheduled to speak are former U.S. Sen. Mary Landrieu, U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, basketball star Earvin Magic Johnson and Vartan Gregorian, president of the Carnegie Corp. of New Orleans.
Nola.com pointed out Landrieu, Holder and Johnson all hold views on abortion and contraception that could be considered contradictory to that of the Catholic church.

The Jesuits have devolved into an unspeakable cabal.
Who am I to judge?
The USCCB eventually, after waiting about thirty years, adopted a policy against inviting abortionists to be honored at, or to speak at, Catholic institutions.
The Jesuits have been total holdouts. AFAIK, EVERY Jesuit college (there are 28 of them) invites abortionists for commencement speakers and for honorary degrees.
Next Step: The Archbishop will threaten the Jesuits with the Church’s MOST SEVERE PENALTY: the “tut-tut.”
They were always kinda screwy
Ask any Tudor Sovereign
Not to be confused with Xavier in Cincinnati..a few years back they had Anthony Munoz speak. He’s pro marriage. And as for Vartan Gregorian, I heard him speak before. He’s a hard work breeds success guy. But those other three at Xavier in New Orleans! Blech.
Landrieu ?
This Xavier..the one in Louisiana is not a Jesuit university. That doesn’t mean the Jesuits aren’t liberal, just that Xavier Louisiana was founded by a nun from the sisters of the blessed sacrament or some such order.
Nothing happens within a diocese without the approval of the bishop; even the orders can only operate within them with his approval.
These weak leaders can’t have it both ways; they are either Catholic or they aren’t. I believe the Catholic Church is the true Church, and I wouldn’t send them a plugged nickel until they address the lack of leadership/example.
The last four or five Popes have appointed hundreds upon hundreds of corrupt, immoral, heretical, Marxist bishops, and then whined about how the Church is falling into chaos. And they have done this while being inundated with letters from the laity.
The latest appointment in San Diego is another open-borders fanatic, who also believes in Communion for abortionists.
The Popes and most of the Catholic bishops in the U.S. have been making war on the U.S. and on the pro-life movement. They are accomplices to Obama’s plan to replace the American people with a new, socialist, pro-abortion people.
Oops. The Jesuit place in New Orleans is Loyola. Just as pro-abortion.
My all-time favorite was back in the eighties, some pro-abortion lesbian nun speaking to some WymynChurch convention about smashing the patriarchy in the Vatican, etc., etc., etc. Her name was Sr. Something Irish—of “the Sisters of the Humility of Mary.”
A very short-sighted strategy; most of these immigrants have little use for the Church, and support the Bolshevik Democrats that are putting the Church out of business.
Here in NJ, Dems are eliminating Catholic education with massive school taxes for the state system. They are shutting down the Catholic healthcare system with policies that require treatment in ERs while reducing the state reimbursement for such care. When the laity balks at financially supporting some guys to live in a rectory working a few hours per week, the hierarchy shouldn’t be surprised; asking them to pay for Catholic education and healthcare overseas while denying them the same here is simply callous.
