Shattuck: Walker walks the walk at CPAC
The Boston Herald ^ | 02/28/15 | Tom Shattuck

Big Government Sucks.”

That’s the slogan of the hordes of young people at the Conservative Political Action Conference.

The lesson from this year’s CPAC was that if you wanted to win over this energetic crowd it behooved you to be succinct and rebellious — like that three-word slogan — when taking the stage.

Chris Christie used tough talk.

Scott Walker used down-home exuberance.

Ted Cruz called out every party save for the Tea Party for talking the talk but not walking the walk.

And they received tepid passing grades from CPAC’s most energetic demographic.

Jeb Bush, however, missed the mark, filling much of his time with references from the 1990s — before much of the crowd was even born.

Walker, who gave a barnburner of a speech, is respected by the adults in the room and viable across country.

Respected and viable — a succinct reason to vote for him.

I listened to Hannity’s interviews of some of the candidates and it was informative. If the candidate has a questionable view of Amnesty then Hannity did not ask him about Amnesty. Walker was not asked. Cruz pre-empted by firm ambiguity.

Walker does not support amnesty. He has made repeated statements that border security is a top priority and no amnesty is given to illegals.

I sincerely hope we don't have the same damn thing happen on FR as has happened here in the past - two or three camps squaring off and fighting tooth and nail all the way to the election, sniping & b*tching.

Both Cruz and Walker are excellent candidates.

Thanks, Skeeter. My wish is that Freepers discuss the candidates and their positions; that the GOP selects a true Conservative; and that we ALL GET BEHIND HIM IN THE GENERAL ELECTION!

And then two of the three groups stay home election day.

I call BS. Nearly everyone here showed up on election day in 2012. A few proudly proclaim ‘staying home’ but it’s the rare exception. This crowd is primarily an anyone but Obama crowd. Romney lost because he failed to motivate a great number of Americans to show up at all. Not the fully invested conservative core, but run of the mill voters that were not inspired to show up.

It was the Reagan Democrats that stayed home in 2012. Makes perfect sense when you think about it.

As long as nobody supports Trump we won’t have mass purges.

Pray America is waking

Walker and Cruz may not support amnesty, but both support supplying big business with more legal cheap high tech foreign labor.

Our candidates are an ‘embarrassment of riches’... Any one of them would be a million times better than our current ‘dictator in Chief’ or any of the thug wannabees democrats...

I live in NJ, so never in my life have I cast a meaningful primary ballot, other than for symbolism.

By the time I have to pull a lever, I'd be quite happy with Walker or Cruz. I have my small-government reasons for even being OK with Paul.

Won't vote for Christie in the general even, and I've voted for him twice for governor. His big government flaws are acceptable when running against the crooks and boobs the Democrat Corruption Machine run here, but those flaws are unacceptable in a President.

I'm avoiding wrapping my brain around what to do in a Bush vs. Hillary contest. Ugg. I know what I'd have to do. Let's not let it get there.

I’m curious whether Walker will stick to his statement that one shouldn’t speak ill of other GOP candidates (Reagan’s 11th Commandment.)

That doesn’t mean policy differences shouldn’t be discussed, obviously, but it would take name-calling off the table, which could elevate the debate considerably.

Begs the question; was he for it, before he was against it;  has there not been enough political doublespeak?

NRO reported that after he was elected Milwaukee County executive in 2002, Walker signed a resolution passed by the county government calling for the implementation of an amnesty similar to the measure signed into law by President Reagan in 1986.

It passed overwhelmingly on May 23, 2002, and Walker approved it on June 19, 2002 in his capacity as county executive.

If that is not enough Walker doublespeak...read the article; check the 3 minute video at the following link Walker in his own words; especially his answer to at the end of the video when asked about illegals; if he can envision a pathway to citizenship he says "sure it makes sense"
