Ted Cruz’s CPAC Televangelism
The Daily Beast ^ | February 26, 2015 | Olivia Nuzzi

Posted on 02/26/2015 10:00:28 PM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

Ted Cruz, CPAC’s favorite travelling salesman, was back and selling his favorite product: himself.

Ted Cruz is onstage at CPAC. As is his custom he has declined to stand behind the podium and is instead pacing methodically around the stage with a microphone pinned to his blue striped tie.

“To turn this country around it will not come from Washington; it will come from the American people,” he yells. “And so I will ask every one of you if you will join our grassroots army. Take out your cell phone and text the word ‘Constitution’ to the number 33733. Let me give that to you again! Take out your cell phone and text the word ‘Constitution’ to 33733!”

His voice booms throughout the ballroom—speeding up, slowing down, soaring and winding down to a faux-whisper at carefully chosen intervals, like a televangelist or someone trying to sell you a set of steak knives and a Bedazzler at 3 a.m. on an infomercial.

“It will be each of you empowering and energizing we the people that turns the country around!”

A text to 33733 received this automated response: “Together let’s bring bold, clear leadership to America tedcruz.org. Text STOP to end or HELP for help. Msg&Data Rates May Apply. No more than 30 messages/month.”

More than any other likely Republican presidential candidate, Cruz is a salesman.

He understands what his audience wants to hear, and he knows how to say it sweetly.

“This is a room full of patriots,” he says to hoots of approval. “The men and women who are gathered here today are gathered to fight for freedom in our country. And the men and women of CPAC are going to play a fundamental decision in how we turn this country around! The men and women gathered here today are going to play a crucial role in reigniting the miracle of America.”

Cruz begins to talk faster and louder.

The pace and energy of his speech has picked up so much, in fact, that it sounds as though he could start talking in tongues at any second.

“How do we do that, how do we win, how do we bring back the miracle that is America? #1. We reassemble the Reagan coalition. #2. We bring together fiscal conservatives and social conservatives and national security conservatives. We stand strong for economic growth, but we also stand for life and marriage. We defend the constitutional rights, but we also stand and lead the fight against ISIS and a nuclear Iran.”

The crowd is eating it up, and Cruz is beaming.

And now, Cruz is joined onstage by Fox News’ Sean Hannity for a short interview—a part of a new format introduced by Matt Schlapp, the chairman of the American Conservative Union, CPAC’s sponsor.

Schlapp, told The Washington Post that the new format would be more challenging for speakers.

“The Q&A gives them a chance to be spontaneous and to make news—not in a negative way but in a positive way,” he said. “I think it makes them nervous that the format has changed. It could be high-risk, but it could also be very high-reward.”

“HELLOOOOOOO CPAC!” Sean Hannity shouts. “Give it up for Senator Ted Cruz!”

High-risk?

Hannity and Cruz now engage in verbal masturbation, with Hannity repeatedly giving Cruz chances to differentiate himself from his Republican rivals and attack President Obama.

What does Cruz say to his GOP critics?

“The central point is we shouldn’t be listening to Washington. We should be listening to the American people!” And what does Cruz think America should do about ISIS? “We need a commander in chief who will actually stand up and defend the United States of America!”

Doing his best game show host impersonation, Hannity tells Cruz to get ready for the “lightning round!”

Finally, Hannity is going to ask some tough questions.

“What could the top five agenda items of a President Cruz—what would they be?”

Oh.

Cruz, who one imagines has been addressing himself as “President Cruz” in his bathroom mirror every morning since early childhood, was more than ready with a well-thought-out, if puddle-deep list.

And the crowd goes wild.

“#1. Repeal every blasted word of Obamacare!”

Applause.

“#2. Abolish the IRS—take all 125,000 IRS agents and put them on our Southern border!”

Applause.

“#3 Stop the out of control regulators at the EPA Applause.

“#4 Defend out Constitutional rights! All of them!”

Applause.

“#5 Restore America’s leadership in the world as the shining city on the hill!”

Hannity says he has just one more question for Cruz. Perhaps he’s saved the most challenging for last.

“Why does Ted Cruz love America?”

It’s a tough one, for sure, but Cruz is prepared to answer it: “This country is the greatest country in the history of the world! It has been a haven for freedom.”

He remembers his father, who fled from Cuba to this shining city on the hill.

“If we get back to this, brighter days are ahead!”

Remember to text “Constitution” to 33733 to support freedom, but mostly to support Ted Cruz.

Text within the next hour and Cruz will repeal Obamacare and give you a Bedazzler; Text within the next half hour and he will send IRS agents to patrol the U.S.-Mexican border and you get a second Bedazzler free! But text now and Cruz will restore America’s greatness and personally Bedazzle a pair of your favorite jeans.

Text now!

Hey Olivia, thanks so much for including your negative, sniping, bitchy spin on Cruz’s actual words! Couldn’t do without that! But we’re well-versed these days in pulling out the facts from the maelstrom of spin . . . and so I see two things from your “reporting.” One, Cruz gave a helluva speech at CPAC and the crowd ate it up. And two — Cruz scares the waddin’ out of you, doesn’t he?

Enjoy 2016. I think I will!

Whether it's Walker or Cruz, the libs have gone completely nuts.

Someone else once said, "Pretty is sometimes like the bottom of a birdcage." The argument being that people who have the advantage of good looks can get sloppy and morally indolent in other areas.

And .. at least Ted doesn’t stand behind the podium and stare at teleprompters to make sure he says the right things .. like somebody else I could mention (POTUS).

What Ted says, as he’s walking around, is coming right from his heart and it does not have to be written on teleprompters to be sure he gets all the items from Valerie Jarrett correctly.

Never trust anything from the Daily Beast to be fair or impartial .. they don’t know how.

This is all pretty terrific, but I still remember how I've felt after the last half dozen annual CPAC straw polls and how it looks like nothin but a bunch of Rand Paul, or Ron Paul clones casting votes for themselves instead of a real cross section of constitutional conservatives rather than just a bunch of crazed Liberaltarians!!!

However, I would feel much worse if the establishment RINOs were to be winning lopsided victories and providing the same discoloration of the results.

There! Now I've pist off everybody equally. Ain't equality marvelous? (/s)

First off, I don’t think her face is all that pretty to start with. Secondly, you’re absolutely right. The snark positively oozed out of that “news” report. This is where the media is today in the US of A.

[[Ted Cruz is onstage at CPAC.]]

Swell, is he standing up there telling the crowd he will put a stop to the nonsense called ‘climate change regulations’ because man is only responsible for 0.0015% of ALL atmospheric CO2 (which is only 0.04% of the atmosphere)?

Is he telling folsk that he WILL repeal the unconstitutional HC law?

Is he telling folks he WILL put an end to the ILLEGAL power grab by the FCC which is NOT authorized to do so and which has violated the constitution?

I asked him/his office/staff or whatever for their stance on global warming being man made- and gave him the relevant figures and asked how man could possibly be responsible given that we produce nearly ZERO % CO2 In the atmosphere- and all I heard back was, in e3ssence, that he is for ‘responsible climate change regulations”

They didn’t even bother sending a reply- even a canned reply like ted cruz’s office did

I emailed EVERY GOP senator I could- ONLY ted’s office bothered sending a reply

I wanna vote for Ted- but his response to climate change has me wondering if he isn’t agreeing with the charlatans that man ‘is to blame’?

Cruz to CNN: Global warming not supported by data
http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2014/02/20/cruz-to-cnn-global-warming-not-supported-by-data/

Ted Cruz supports expanded drilling and opposes cap-and-trade legislation and EPA regulation of greenhouse gases. In July of 2011, SG Cruz was interviewed by Conservatives in Action and noted his role in representing multiple entities in challenging the moratorium on offshore drilling in the wake of the BP oilspill.

In September of 2011, SG Cruz came out with a 12 point plan for the economy. Three of those points were related to energy and the environment. The details of those three points were that Mr Cruz opposed a cap-and-trade system, opposed the off-shore drilling moratorium, and opposed EPA regulation of carbon dioxide as an environmental hazard.

http://www.thepoliticalguide.com/Profiles/Senate/Texas/Ted_Cruz/Views/Energy_and_the_Environment/

Cruz signed the No Climate Tax Pledge, which stated, “I pledge to the taxpayers of my state, and to the American people, that I will oppose any legislation relating to climate change that includes a net increase in government revenue.” This pledge is based on the belief that less government interference is better for the American people.

“More than any other likely Republican presidential candidate, Cruz is a salesman. “

She is just bitter that she was sold “ism” and now she does everything to justify her bad buying choice....

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oz9fX_HfsXA

The only thing Cruz is selling is freedom, I feel Cruz wouldn’t mind if Mike Lee was elected president and he himself quit politics forever.

This is case of Progressive Personality Projection by the Author.

[ What Ted says, as he’s walking around, is coming right from his heart and it does not have to be written on teleprompters to be sure he gets all the items from Valerie Jarrett correctly. ]

That is because Ted Cruz Says what he BELIEVES TO HIS CORE! Ted’s ideals are Literally ingrained into HIS VERY SOUL!

Anything that Spews out of Obama’s Mouth is a carefully scripted “means to power” speech and talking points that always have to be updated constantly by himself and his handlers.

This is precisely WHY Obama can so easily contradict himself when you take two Obama statements on the SAME subject with only a few years between them!!!

AND JEB BUSH HAS THE EXACT SAME DISEASE!!!!!

Jeb Bush’s statements, positions, and pandering to illegal aliens, crony business, and foreign interests, and the “mushy” middle are nothing more than another Cynical “Means to Power” for this establishment type.

Jeb is Just another Obama in a Bush Family Mantle.

The left is worried, very, very worried. It's no wonder. I saw the Hannity interview last night. Cruz was ON FIRE. He even spoke of "a shining city on a hill" The left is very, very worried.

I’m totally against Jeb Bush. I’m still a real fan of GW, but I saw him change over the years (partially because of his liberal wife). I knew it was going to be difficult for him to stay on the conservative path after I heard him say that his wife chastened him for declaring, “...dead or alive ...” statement.

Laura is a lovely person .. but she’s a liberal; is pro-choice. She actually stole our warrior from us.

Therefore, I’m looking for a warrior who will not be influenced by a liberal wife. I’m hoping, at this point, that’s who Ted Cruz and Scott Walker really are.
