McConnell faces conservative backlash over compromise to fund DHS, Dems get on board
FOX News ^ | February 25, 2015

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell faced a backlash Wednesday from conservatives after backing off demands that Congress reverse President Obama’s immigration executive actions as a condition for funding the Department of Homeland Security.

Senate Democrats, meanwhile, voiced support for the new plan after initially staying coy. A day earlier, McConnell, R-Ky., effectively gave them what they’ve been demanding – by agreeing to hold a stand-alone vote on a DHS funding bill, with no immigration measures attached.

“We are going to do everything we can to make sure it passes by an overwhelming vote. I think virtually every Democrat will vote for that,” Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., announced Wednesday.

Reid’s announcement likely helps clear the way for passage in the Senate.

McConnell also earned support from senior members of his caucus, with fellow GOP leaders making clear that the approach may be the only way to fund DHS past a Friday midnight deadline. Four times in a row, Senate Democrats blocked the GOP legislation that would reverse Obama’s immigration actions as a condition for funding DHS. (It is expected to advance later Wednesday, with the understanding that it will be changed to what Democrats want.)

But vocal conservatives bristled at the change in tactics. And the complaints could create turbulence on the House side.

Why in the world should a conservative ever vote Republican ever again?

It is time for a RINOless party.

WTF? Why does this minority fossil still wield so much power?

He’s still the Majority Leader, for all intents and purposes.

I don't think McConnell or Boehner are worried about any type of backlash. They've been betraying conservatives for years and never faced any consequences.

I want a standing filabuster for 2 weeks!! I want these lieing bastard republicans that told us they would stop this dictor to participate. This is a sellout and the vertual distruction of the party as we have known it. I trust they realize that by funding the illegal edict they thereby approve it as a matter of law. So we have possible Senate and House approval of this tyrants unconstitutional usurpation. The argument will now be made in court that it was ratified by both houses, Have we gone mad? Is this “invasion of the body snatchers II” ? I’m not believing this disassrter in our own party. Gutless feckless putrid bastards.

Mitch is just too old to care any more!

What a wuss!!

If the roles were reversed, Harry Reid would have already changed the rules and put DHS funding w/o Amnesty up for a vote.

” Because Mitch controls the money and money controls the Senate.”

And Mitch’s crony corporatist overlords control Mitch.

They all must only two Senators voted against it.

mcconnel can simply decide to proceed with this bill as a reconciliation bill - exactly as Reid did I with the ACA in order to avoid the 60 vote requirement. The fact that McConnell will not push the bill as a reconciliation proves his is just a hollow support for the House bill - it is proof he supports obamnesty.

You know it, I know it, everyone knows it.

And when Mitch screws up and loses the senate, Harry will switch it right back. Duh.

McConnell needs a leadership challenge.

I have opposed the formation of a third party to replace the Republicans. I am still of that opinion.

However, the time to march on Washington DC with pitchforks and torches has arrived. We should tar and feather the entire democRAT party and any rino who doesn’t support the principles of impeaching and removing Obama and every member of this corrupt administration.

Compromise? Exactly what are Republicans getting out of the so-called deal? McConnell is giving Obama and the Dims everything they want. No compromise involved.

I haven’t seen shades of incompetence and indifference leading the Senate round and round in a Looney-bin trance like this since he was dorking things up before as a “leader” in same.

History repeating?

Or Retweeting.. Like the FRench..

Oblivious to the perils we all face.
