Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) is warning that Republicans who support Attorney General nominee Loretta Lynch are complicit in what he sees as President Obamas lawless action on immigration.
While current Attorney General Eric Holder has drawn the ire of many conservatives, including Cruz, the freshman senator argues in a new op-ed that Lynch wont have any noticeable difference in enforcing Obamas policies, which he believes break the law.
Holders lawless behavior occurred after he was confirmed. It is altogether different for the Senate to confirm a nominee who tells us ahead of time she will ignore the law, Cruz writes in a Politico op-ed published Wednesday.
If the Senate does so, we are complicit in the lawlessness.
Cruz breaks down Lynchs confirmation testimony to argue that shell be a retread of Holder on issues including immigration, drone strikes, surveillance and the accusation of political targeting at the IRS.
The answers she gave at her confirmation hearing are, in my view, disqualifying for serving as our nations chief law enforcement officer, he wrote.
Cruz has been one of the most vocal opponents of Lynchs nomination and has said he might block her confirmation vote. Other Republican senators have shared their concerns about Lynch backing Obamas executive action on immigration.
