Senate GOP ready to split DHS funding and blocking Obama’s amnesty into separate bills?

We knew it would come to this. Alternate headline: “Party that promised to avoid shutdowns will avoid shutdown.”

At least we’ll get some entertainment over the next few days from GOP aides trying to convince the media this isn’t a total cave.

Senate Republican leaders are plotting a new strategy that they hope will allow them to prevent a shutdown of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) next week.

They are considering a plan in which they would split off legislation attacking President Obama’s executive action on immigration from funding for DHS, according to a Senate GOP aide familiar with the discussions.

Senate GOP leaders are also looking at dropping any effort to overturn Obama’s 2012 executive action, which set up the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. Polls suggest this program is more popular because it helps illegal immigrants who came to the country as children…

“We would try to have a vote on just that issue,” the aide added. “Does it have to be addressed as part of DHS, or can it be addressed separately? If we can get to that issue and have a vote on that issue, then you come back to DHS appropriations.

The DHS is anti-Freedom and pro-Police State.
Kill it and layoff all the DHS employees. Let the FBI do what they did before DHS. And give the Coast Guard back to Treasury or the Navy.

That sounds like a typical winning GOP strategy.

Their mastery of fail is truly impressive.

This is what the GOPe do the best, retreat. The argument was to pass a budget without DHS included so they could fight during the DHS budget. Once again, they want to fight the next fight, which they always give in on. The GOPe is incapable of arguing the conservative position because they are nothing but Democrat light.

Gees...I keep waiting for the GOP to develop a spine. I’d love to open my pocketbook to them, but not when I see this kinda crap going on.

But they aren’t democrat light.

Democrats fight non-stop until they get what they want. No one breaks ranks ever.

The GOP is nothing like this, it is a truly pathetic and cowardly creature that deserves nothing but disdain.

Reid set the president by invoking the “nuclear option”. Nuke ‘em, Mitch, it’s on them. That will stop the Rat’s filibuster and open debate on the House bill. Put the heat on the Rats to take a position on Barky’s EOs. Put it to a vote, then send the hot potato to the WH for Barky to shut down the government.

The GOP senate leadership possesses an ironclad determination that they will not oppose Obama’s illegal amnesty in any meaningful way.

I kept waiting for GHWB to finally get out the big guns in 1992 because I knew he had them but he never did. He was a proper Republican as are his progeny.

McConnell isn’t going to eliminate the filibuster. That would force him to act like something other than a Qusiling. That would be against his principles.

Why not break it out? Fund DHS and kill amnesty funding? Let the rats insist the funding goes back Ito the bill. That is a winner for the GOP in that the media now has to blame the GOP for not funding amnesty.

That’s exactly what I’m saying, that’s what the House bill does - it funds homeland security but not 0bama’s illegal amnesty EOs. Dingy Harry already poisoned the well in the Senate by killing the filibuster.

Breaking it out also has the effect of sending it back to the House, where the Democrats can get another whack at Boehner. Better to keep it in the Senate alone, where it is now.

I'm assuming that this is still the unamended House bill.
