Pray for Our American Heroes and Nation

Lord God,

So often the world teaches us that we must look a certain way, respond a certain way, have certain skills, make a certain amount of money, possess certain “toys”---all so that we can be accepted and measure up to the standards of other humans. But that is not what You teach. You teach us that we are to rely totally and completely on You for our worth. Our acceptance is in You. But in addition, You are our strength and our ability and our protection, our righteousness, our joy, our purpose, and our future. You are all we need. You are the Judge of all the earth. You are the One Who makes beauty of ashes. You take the foolish and weak things of the world and use them to confound the wise and mighty. You take the unloved and the humble and use them to bring about blessing. Lord, there is no end to the possibilities that we have in You, for You have wonderful plans for each of us.

Father, we pray that the America that You helped to establish and protect and prosper throughout these 240 years would be the America that returns to You, that repents, and that humbles itself under Your mighty hand once again. We all must repent and seek Your face for the sins of our nation, Father. This task cannot be left to faithful prayer warriors. It must involve everyone in this nation. We all must be on our knees---seeking Your face, seeking Your forgiveness, seeking Your help in restoring our nation.

Lord, help those who have taken an oath to defend our Constitution. Let everyone in our military have a deeper sense of Your abiding presence. You have graven them upon the palms of Your hands, Lord; their walls are continually before You. Let those who know You share Your plan of salvation with those who are in darkness. Father, we know that You honor every one of our American heroes who are willing to lay down their lives for their fellow man.

We need You every hour of every day, most precious Lord. We must seek You, Lord, in order to find Your answers for our nation. We pray that by faith, we would receive all the blessings that were wrought for us through the atonement, Father, and that Your mercy would be upon us even as we hope in You. O God, for the sake of Your Son Whose Precious Blood was shed for us, help us to return to You. Hear the cries of our humble hearts, Father, in the Name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

IN THE COLDEST and darkest days of the American Revolution, General George Washington raised his prayers for the survival of his beleaguered Army and of the new Nation. The Lord answered his prayers, upheld his Army through a punishing nadir to everlasting Glory, and bestowed His Manifold Blessings upon the new Nation.

FROM THE BRAVE, albeit weary, ill-equipped, and untrained volunteers who marched into Valley Forge on 19 December 1777 arose, with the help of some gallant friends from across the waves, the cohesive fighting force that became the United States Army, global defender of Freedom and scourge of Tyrants.



AS GENERAL WASHINGTON lifted his prayers on high in that bleak Winter, let our prayers now rise like a fountain for our Heroes in the American Armed Forces who seek to secure the benefits of Freedom on behalf of a people hungry for them. Father, look on our prayers for them with favor, guide their steps in righteousness and gather them in the shelter of Your Healing Wings. Bless and uphold them in the performance of their Mission. Through Jesus Christ, Your Son, with the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever, Amen.
